Addendum to Industrial Training Guideline for SLIIT Engineering students:

Valid for the training period: September 2021 - March 2022

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted both the Industrial training of students and training
organizations. This guideline is designed to cover the industrial training from 20th September 2021 to 04th
March 2021 and will serve as an addendum to already published training guidelines.
Procedure to be followed during Training

1. All the student undergoing industrial training are requested to strictly follow RELATED GUIDELINES AND
CIRCULARS issued by the Government of Sri Lanka, SLIIT and the training organization during the training
period. Commencement or resumption of training should be done as per the guidelines of Health
Authorities only.
2. It is the responsibility of the students, to exercise adequate levels of protection against COVID-19
transmission from others as well as from themselves during the period of industrial training.
3. The students are at liberty to decide whether to undergo Industrial Training during the time
stipulated in No 4 below or engaged in industrial training at the end of the 2nd semester of the 4th year
academic studies. However industrial training after 2nd semester of the 4th year can delay the
graduation date of the student.
4. Students shall commence training on 20th September 2021 through 04th March 2021 for fulfilment of the
industrial training requirements of 24 weeks of continuous training specified in the curriculum.
5. Students living in lock down areas:
i. Should inform the Training Division of Faculty of Engineering, SLIIT immediately with details since
training organizations are not allowed to take students from lock down areas.
ii. Have to wait till lock down is lifted to commence training. The period missed, if any, should be
covered after the final year academic studies as per the already published guidelines.
6. If Lock down happens during the training period, students should inform the Training Division
immediately . The period they missed should be covered as stated in No 5(ii)above.
7. Any delay in commencement, stoppage of work shall be mentioned in the training diary and need to be
certified accordingly by the training supervisor. Same diary can be continued for the continuation
of the training during 1st and 2nd 12 weeks of training.
8. If any change of training place is required due to lock down or any reasons related to COVID19
situation, it may be allowed but Training Place change procedure stipulated in the Training
guideline already published should be followed.
9. If any student has done training continuation in same or different training organization, it should be
clearly indicated in the diary. Two Training reports should be submitted for 1 st and 2nd 12 weeks of
training period and the training content at different times should be clearly shown with time
periods.
10. If any Training organization instructs the students to engage in off- site relevant engineering work, the
procedure stipulated below should be followed:
i. Student should inform the Training Division immediately (same day) with the approval of the
training organization or should inform the training organization to write direct to Training
Division, SLIIT. Student is deemed to be liable for taking this action.
ii. Student should prepare a weekly schedule of work (day by day) for off-site relevant
engineering work,as per instructions of the training organization, and it should be notified to
the Training Division, SLIIT. Such work shall be recorded by the student in the training diary and
required to be certified by the training supervisor before submission to Training Division. Such
incidents should be included and certified in the form C.
iii. Student should ensure adequate work is being covered during off-site relevant engineering work
and should be able to verify that during training assessment.
iv. Training Report can be a continuous document which includes off-site relevant engineering work.
v. At the end of each week (latest by Saturday) a detailed report of such work carried out day by day
should be sent to the Training Division as well as training supervisor according to the weekly
schedule agreed.
vi. When the student reports back to the training organization for on site work, it should be
informed to the Training division,SLIIT on the first day of reporting.
vii. During the period of off-site relevant engineering work, the progress of the students’ training work
may be monitored by Training Engineer, SLIIT through online meetings.
viii. The student will be assessed during the training viva regarding the work done during the entire
training period and acceptability of the training obtained during the off-site relevant
engineering work period will be based on the performance of the student during the viva
process.

11. Any student, who does not undergo industrial training or has to complete repeat training, can only
engage in such industrial training only after the final year of academic studies.
12. Training visits will be conducted, whenever possible in accordance with the safety regulations
imposed by health authorities and training organizations.
13. Method for Training document submission to the Training Division after completion of training will be
decided considering the prevailing situation at that time.
14. Training Evaluation will be conducted on Industrial Training through online or face to face means
according to the prevailing situation.
15. Students are required to fill and submit the Google sheet published by the Training Division, SLIIT before
28th September 2021 giving details of the training. The same form should be updated due to change of
training location under Covid situation or any other valid reason acceptable to the Training Division.
16. Incident reporting can be done to the Training Division of SLIIT through the dedicated email
(trainingfoe@sliit.lk) indicating the Name of student, EN number, Field of specialization, Year of study,
name of the training organization and name of training location/project in all correspondences.
