POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMME-Choice Based Credit Scheme (CBCS)

Preamble:
Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on
establishing harmony between mind, body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony
between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is becoming
popular day by day and has become a wave which is sweeping across the globe. In this course we
introduce yoga as a science of Holistic living and not merely as yoga postures. During the course
the student will be able to understand the concept of Preventive Healthcare, Promotion of
Positive Health and Personality Development through Yoga.
Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Education (PGDYED), one years (TWO Semesters, Credit
System) programme is a professional programme meant for preparing trained yoga teachers. The
aim of the course is to propagate and promote yoga for positive health

II. Introduction:

A PG Diploma in Yoga is a highly beneficial course for students aspiring to become health
and fitness experts. The courses offered at a PG level are designed to develop the student
into a comprehensive health and wellness professional.

III. Vision and Mission:

Our vision is to provide quality-oriented education, enhance the reputation as a high class
teaching and research institution.

Mission:

 To strive to become a skill oriented, premier center of teaching and research in yogic
science.
 To promote students’ achievement and prepare them for global competitiveness in
yoga.
 Programs will provide new avenues for the students to learn, practice and propagate
the yoga.
 To establish a value based and need based yogic practices and education.
 Our department aims to provide awareness about health and to contribute a
sustainable development in the society
IV. Eligibility for Admission to this Course:
Graduate with in any discipline from recognized university with a minimum of 50% mark
in aggregate. Preference shall be given to the candidate who studied physical education as
compulsory/elective subject and having participation at least I minimum Inter-
District/School Competitions in Yoga/Sports and Games a recognized by the
AIU/IOA/SGFI/Govt. of India. Relaxation in the percents of marks in the qualifying
examination and in the reservation of the seats for SC/ST/OBC and other categories shall
be as per the rules of the Central Govt. /State Govt. whichever is applicable
V. Objectives
The course aims at
1. Promoting positive health, prevention of stress related health problems and
rehabilitation through Yoga.
2. Integral approach of Yoga Therapy to common ailments.
3. Imparting skills in them to introduce Yoga for health to general public and Yoga for
total personality development of students in Colleges and Universities.
4. Invoke scientific attitude and team spirit to channelize their energies in to creative and
constructive endeavors.
5. To enable them to establish Yoga Therapy centers in the service of common man
VI. Program Outcomes / Learning Outcomes
 Students will know about the meaning and definitions of Yoga.
 Students will gain in depth knowledge about the origin and history of Yoga.
 Students will know about the consideration of Yoga as an art and science.
 They will gain some philosophical concepts of Yoga.
VII. Structure of program
a) Scheme of Examination:

Courses having Internal Assessment (IA) and University Examinations (UE) shall be
evaluated by the respective institutes and the University at the term end for 70 and 30 Marks
respectively. The total marks of IA and UE shall be 100 Marks and it will be converted to
grade points and grades. Courses having only Internal Assessment (IA) the respective
institutes will evaluate the students in various ways such as
Class Test, Presentations, Field Assignments and Mini Projects for a total of 100 marks
during the term. Then the marks will be converted to grade points and grades. Open Courses
shall be evaluated for 100 marks only (hundred marks only).
b) Components of continuous evaluation system:

c) Grading System for Programmes:

University has suggested the use of a 10-point grading system for all programmes designed
by its different Board of Studies.
Standard of Passing:
For all courses, both UE and IA constitute separate heads of passing (HoP). In order to pass
in such courses and to earn the assigned credits, the learner must obtain a minimum grade
point of 5.0 (40% marks) at UE and also a minimum grade point of 5.0 (40% marks) at IA.

If learner fails in IA, the learner passes in the course provided, he/she obtains a minimum
25% marks in IA and GPA for the course is at least 6.0 (50% in aggregate). The GPA for a
course will be calculated only if the learner passes at UE. A student who fails at UE in a
course has to reappear only at UE as backlog candidate and clear the Head of Passing.
Similarly, a student who fails in a course at IA he/she has to reappear only at IA as backlog
candidate and clear the Head of Passing to secure the GPA required for passing.

M.Sc. YOGIC SCIENCE I SEMESTER

Course objectives

 To provide students with the basic knowledge of yoga through Fundamental of classical
text books and teaching
 Introduction of 8 limbs of the yoga through Patanjali yoga sutra.
 To impart knowledge on patanjali yoga sutra. Study on purusha, prakrithi and chitta and
its modification

Course outcomes

CO-1 Understanding the true meaning of yoga.


CO-2 To have the theoretical knowledge about the process of attaining Samadhi by
following the steps laid down by sage patanjali.
CO-3 Understand the various obstacles in the way of attaining yoga and how to overcome
by concentrated chitta
CO-4 The theoretical knowledge about the psychological aspects about one’s chitta and its
modification. Also, knowledge of state of chitta, their application, attaining of kaivalya.

Syllabus

Unit-I Introduction to Yoga Sutra 17 Hrs


1. Yoga - Meaning, Definition, Aim, Objects, Concepts, Misconcepts.
2. Nature of Yoga Science, Definition of Yoga, the nature of seer in pure and modified
state, Vrttis – Nature, classification, definition, method to control of citta vrttis.
3. Samprajnata Samadhi and its classification, Asamprajnata and its classification.
Variation in the attainment of Asamprajnata Samadhi; Ishwarapranidhana – a
means to attain Samadhi, Definition & quality of Ishwara.
4. Chittavikshepa, Chittaprasadana and its associates, control of Chittavikshepa,
different methods of manasthiti and its benefits. Samapatti, Sukshmavishayatwa,
Sabijasamadhi, Speciality of Nirvichara, Rthambaraprajna, Nirbijasamadhi.
Unit-II Kriya Yoga 15 Hrs
1. Kriya-yoga and its benefits; classification, methods to control kleshas, karmasaya.
2. Vipaka of kleshamula, Heyaswarupa, Heyahetu, Drsya and Drasta.
3. Samyoga-Nature & cause, Hanopaya, Hanaswarupa.
4. Vivekakhyathi, Astanga yoga.

Unit-III Samyama and its applications 17 Hrs


1. Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi, Samyama, Antaranga and Bahiranga yoga, Application
and benefits of Parinama, Dharma and Dharmi.
2. Parinamanyatva, Samyama on – Parinamatraya, knowledge of bhuta ruta,
Parachitta jnana, Antardhana.
3. Aparantajnana, Samyama on – Maitri, Surya, Chandra, Nabhichakra, Kanthakupa,
Kaurmanadi, Murdhajyothi, Pratibha, Hrdaya, Swartha, Udana, Samana, and their
benefits.
4. Attainments of divyashrotra, Akashagamana, Bhutajaya, Animadi siddhi, Indriya
jaya, Kaya jaya, Sarvajnatva, Kaivalya, Vivekajnana, knowledge of satva and
purusha and its benefits – According to Patanjala Yoga sutra - Chapter – III.
Unit-IV Kaivalya in Patanjala Yoga Sutra 17 Hrs
1. Kaivalya–Introduction, Siddhi, Jatyantaraparinama, Nirmanachitta.
2. Karma, Vasana, Smrti and Samskara, Support of vasana, Guna and its existence,
Vastu, Jnata and Ajnata of Vastu.
3. Quality of everknown of purusha, Non-self illumination of Buddhi and its function.
4. Chitta, Dharmamegha Samadhi, Infinite knowledge. Mutation of Guna, Krama,
Pratiprasava and Kaivalya – According to Patanjala Yogasutra – Chapter IV.
