John Kennedy International Airport,

opened on July 1, 1948

In addition to being the largest airport
in New York, JFK is one of the busiest
in the United States, with flights to
all continents. To give you an idea of
this movement, in 2016, JFK set a world
record by receiving almost 59 million
passengers in the year. Daily, there are
more than 35 thousand people working
throughout the airport area.
Hollywood star:
Even those who have never visited JFK
before can find some areas that look
familiar. That's because the airport was
the location of several movies. Terminal
5 was famous for the scenes in Catch Me
If You Can, with Leonardo DiCaprio. In
With 007 Live and Let Die, actor Roger
Moore is seen in the former terminal of
the TWA company. Other films with scenes
filmed at the airport include When Harry
met Sally. The movie The Terminal, with
Tom Hanks, takes place almost entirely
in JFK, but was actually filmed on sets
set up for the movie, in other spaces.
Fun while waiting
In Terminal 4, there are virtual reality
stations installed to help entertain
people waiting between flights. Mixed
reality headphones give you the feeling
of swimming with whales, jellyfish and
sea anemones. It is also possible to
enjoy a series of games, with the help
of employees who can help decide the
best option for each passenger.
Hotel full of history:
Located where, for a long time, the TWA
operations center, former North American
airline, was located, the hotel goes far
beyond a simple practical accommodation,
close to the airport. The center's
design, by Finnish architect Eero
Saarinen, is an architectural
masterpiece - so much so that it was
listed as a New York State Monument in
1994.
In 2015, work began on the TWA Hotel,
which opened in 20 soundproof rooms1,
most with a view of the JFK aircraft
yard, an event center for 1.69 people, 6
restaurants, 8 bars and a museum
dedicated to the era. jet, TWA and the
mid-century modern design movement.

In October 2020, TWA Hotel was named one

of the 25 best hotels in New York by
Condé Nast Traveler readers

Despite the important numbers and large

dimensions, JFK's fame actually comes
from some curiosities and historical
events that took place in the place,
such as the Beatles' first visit to the
United States, in 1964.
It is one of the busiest in the country.
it serves the entire New York and New
Jersey metropolitan area, operating
domestic and international flights
around the world.

New York JFK Airport (JFK)

Is it possible to spend the night at
the airport?
New York JFK airport has many flights
and connections not only within the
United States, but to the rest of the
world; therefore, the movement is
constant in the place, even during the
night and in the dawn. That's why you
can often see passengers passing through
the terminals waiting for their
respective flights to depart. Although
all terminals remain open 24 hours a
day, this is an airport that does not
stand out for offering comfortable
places for passengers to rest, in
addition to being quite cold at night,
being noisy and with strong lighting.
Therefore, it is recommended that
passengers provide a sleeping bag,
blanket, eye patches and earplugs.
Where to rest?
As we mentioned before, there are not
many possibilities for resting in public
areas and most seats have armrests,
making life difficult for those who want
to lie down. Of all the terminals, T1
and T4 seem to be the most suitable, as
they have gastronomic services
throughout the night. In turn, the T5 is
the most modern and clean, and can be an
option for those who want to rest on the
floor.
In turn, Terminal 5 is the most modern
and clean and can also be presented as
an option, at least for resting on the
floor. If you're willing to pay, you
have the TWA Lounge hotel, located next
to Terminal 5.
Another alternative (by paying or using
a credit card that offers the service)
is to use one of the VIP lounges, where
you can have access to greater comfort
and privacy, with the only problem that
most tend to close at night. That's why
we suggest the Wingtips Lounge, in the
Departures area of Terminal 4, as it is
open 24 hours a day. If the passenger
decides to stay in a hotel, there are
several nearby, and some offer a shuttle
service. We have more information about
hosting later.
Are there 24-hour food outlets?
There are two terminals that have 24-
hour food outlets: Terminal 1
(departures area) and 4 (public area).
Are there showers at JFK airport?
There are showers only in some VIP
areas, but not in public restrooms.
Other services available 24 hours
ATMs, and baby changing facilities.
Nearby hotels
The TWA Lounge Hotel is located next to
T5. In addition, in the Arrivals Halls
there are hotel service desks or free
telephones for reservations at any of
the numerous hotels in the vicinity;
most offering free transfers to and from
the airport.
