Subject: Biology Trigger Question: Does strawberries have DNA?
Learning Field: Science

Introduction
Activity Title:
Objective/Description: To see the strawberry’s DNA. Required Materials: 6 STRAWBERRIES, 250 ML OF
ALCOHOL, 1 SIPLOC BAG, 5 TOOTHPICKS, 2 BIG
PLASTIC CLEAR CUPS, 1 BIG SPOON, 1 TBSP OF
SALT, GLOVES AND SOAP. .
Procedure/Instructions: First we smashed the strawberries without the steam, then we make a mix of water, salt
and soap, and we put the mix on the smashed strawberries, and at last we put alcohol in the cup and the
strawberries and you will see the DNA of the strawberrie.

Report
Initial Data All observations and measurements. When appropriate, data should be organized in tables, as
drawings, etc. May be combined with Results if no calculations are needed. Our observation was that it
was necessary to put the almost exact amounts since if it did not work it was a simple process although I
had to be very careful so that it came out correctly the DNA became like a spider web and it was like a
layer on top of the strawberry, it was pretty amazing.

Calculations Should include a sample of each of the calculations, including the analysis of the calculations,
Analysis performed on the data when necessary. Results of calculations or any other manipulation of the data
Results should be organized in tables and graphs where appropriate. These may be separated into individual
sections as necessary. It turned out well, it was quite a lot of DNA that came out, I think we followed the
steps well and the measures to make it work out was quite interesting since it was not such a complex
process, but it was something quite easy.

Findings Discussion of how the data and results apply to the purpose of the laboratory exercise and/or the
Conclusions hypothesis – in other words, what do the data/results show, is the hypothesis supported, what if any
experimental error was there and how could it be corrected, etc. Additional questions generated by the
teacher may be included. Specific data analysis would be omitted from this section if included with
“Calculations”. The experiment with me and my laboratory partner did work well, I think that for it to go
well you should not go beyond the measurements since the experiment could go wrong.
