Hello! My name is Valeria Villalba, I am 18 years old.

I was born in Asuncion; Paraguay and I

have always lived here. I have great admiration for films and cinematography. I want to take
this course because I want to pursue a career as a professor and a translator. This interest in
the English language began as a child. I was very frustrated when I could not understand it, and
given that no one else around me did either, I developed a great curiosity. And when I was
growing up, I saw how different the world was when you learn another language, because an
entirely different culture from mine was revealed to me.

I see writing as many things. First, it is a way to develop my creativity and imagination, by
writing any sort of ideas that come to my mind. Second, it is a way to release every thought or
feeling that can be too overwhelming, helping me relieve and understand a feeling or a
situation I am having. Third, I think it is an excellent way to defend your convictions and
opinions properly, mixed with facts, by organizing your ideas and putting them into an order
for others to understand and persuade.

By the time I complete my diploma, I would like to have achieved a greater level of English in
all aspects, to be able to write, translate and speak as a professional, I would like to be working
in my field as a teacher, and maybe begin to write a script. Besides that, a one-semester goal
that will help me fulfill the long-term goal is to learn as much as I can from every class.

In my opinion, post-secondary education will be rewarding for me in aspects such as a great

development in confidence with the language, writing, speaking, etcetera. Also, I am most
excited about British social studies and Introduction to literature. However, I believe that
adjusting to post-secondary education will be the most challenging for me, given that five
months ago I was still in high school, but I think it is a good challenge and I am more than
willing to overcome it.

On one hand, I am facing an entirely different educational environment, I must leave behind
bad habits that affect my efficiency in learning, procrastination is the worst one. For example,
leaving all of my assignments for last, avoiding responsibilities, losing time on social media, or
distracting myself with movies or TV shows. On the other hand, to succeed I must organize my
time and dedicate a lot of it to learning.
