2.1 Maintenance point in hall buttons

2.2 Condition of installation


a. Check if the hall button box is securely installed.
a) Push the box by hand to see if it is loose.
b) Also, look for any distortion. If the box is encased in concrete, the pressure
from the concrete may have distorted the box.
b. Check the hall buttons on each floor. Make sure the buttons are securely installed in
the box.
c. If the buttons are loose, you have to remove the faceplate and tighten the screws
inside.

2.4 Proper Operation of buttons


a. When you test the hall buttons, check if they move smoothly with appropriate stroke.
b. Don’t use a tool to press the button. Use your finger so that you can feel the
movement.
c. Make sure the button lights up when you press it.

2.5 Testing the hall buttons


It is important to check whether the hall buttons are functioning properly.
Do the following, every time you visit a customer for any scheduled maintenance
work. It takes only a short time.
a. Get sign boards which will inform passengers that the elevator is under maintenance.
b. Go to the top floor.
c. Put one signboard in the elevator hall.
d. Get in the car. In normal operation mode, press the car button for the “main floor” and
go down. (The “main floor” is the floor, which has the most passenger traffic.)
e. If the elevator responds to the calls on the way down, let the passenger in. put an
“under maintenance” signboard on every floor that the elevator stops on the way
down.
f. When you reach the main floor, put another signboard there, too. If passengers are
waiting, let them in, and go to the top floor. Put” under maintenance” signboards on
the floors that the elevator stops on the way up.
g. When you reach the top floor, push the car buttons for every other floors and go down
again, be sure to push the button, the elevator may go up.
h. On the floors that you stop on the way down, do the following;
a) Push both “UP” and “DOWN” hall buttons.
b) Make sure the buttons and telltale lights are functioning normally. (The “UP”
telltale lights should remain turned on, and the “DOWN” telltale lights should
go off immediately.)
c) Make sure the position indicator in the hall is working properly.
d) Check if the doors respond to the hall buttons properly. Press the “DOWN”
hall buttons when the doors start to close, and make sure the doors open
again.
i. When you reach the lowest floor, press the car buttons for the floors you didn’t stop
on the way down, and go up. You don’t need to press the button for the top floor.
j. On the floors you stop on the way up, do the same as you did on the way down. this
time , “UP” telltale lights should go off immediately, and the “DOWN” telltale lights
should remain turned on.

k. As you go up, the elevator should stop at the floors you didn’t designate. (The
elevator is responding to the calls to go up, since you pressed the “UP” hall buttons
on your way down.)
l. When you reach the floor just below the top floor, wait in the car without pressing any
button. The elevator should start to go down, responding to the calls to go down,
since you pressed the “DOWN” hall buttons on your way up. It should go down and
stop at every other floor.
m. When you reach the floor just above the lowest floor, the test is complete.

2.6 Cleaning the hall button box


a. Remove the faceplate.
b. Use air blower, and clean the hall button indicators, PCB, and wires.
c. Clean the inside of the box itself.
d. Put back the faceplate.

3.2 Condition of installation


a. Make sure the indicator box is securely grounded.
b. Check if the indicator box is securely installed.
a) Push the box by hand to see if it is loose.
b) Also, look for any distortion. If the box is encased in concrete, the pressure
from the concrete may have distorted the box.
c. Clean the indicator surface with a cotton cloth, if it is dirty.
d. If you notice looseness of installed parts when you clean the surface, open the box
and make sure that the parts inside the box are securely installed.

3.4 Condition of illumination


a. on every visit, take a look at the hall indicator on the floor to which you run the elevator.
Make sure the indicator correctly identifies the floor, and that the indicator light is
turned on.
b. If the indicator light is not on dim, or flickering, you may need to replace it.

3.5 Functioning (all floors)


a. Make sure that all indicators light up, and the luminosity is the same.
b. Alternatively, you can move the elevator to see if the indicators correctly identify the
location of the elevator.
