nito ay similar with UK, France, and India


- Ang mayayaman na countries like Singapore and brunei, at ang mahihirap na countries like Laos
and Cambodia, ay part ng Asean countries.
o Makikita dito kung gaano ka-diverse ang asean countries
o (OPINION) makakatulong ang alliance na ito sa pagbibigay tulong ng mga mayayamang
countries sa mahihirap na countries if ever need nila ng tulong.
- ASEANS countries compete with each other, rather than cooperating
- ASEAN economic community was implemented in 2015 and its goal is to create a single market
which is fully integrated to the global economy
o ASEAN’s goal is to have a common market that will benefit the citizens of the ASEAN
countries
- Technology plays a huge role in giving service to people (ex. Banking services, insurance
services) and nakakatulong ang technology upang makisabay ang mga tao na nasa “remote
areas” sa daloy ng ekonomiya. (INDONESIA)
- ASEAN is the most imperfect organization in the world.
o Kahit hindi gaano makita ang progress ng ASEAN dahil ito ay “two steps forward, one
step back”, kung titignan ang progress nito simula nung itinatag ang ASEAN, makikita
ang huge development nito as individual countries, and ASEAN as a whole
- The economy of most southeast asia countries depend on small businesses like flea markets, or
any startup businesses that do not depend on huge corporations.
o SME (small and medium-sized enterprises) account for as much as 90 percent of the
jobs
o However, 440 million people in ASEAN do not have bank accounts
o It is a challenge for the SMEs to have bank accounts in order to acquire financial
opportunities. Those opportunities may include consultation on handling financial assets
that may help their business thrive.
- Inclusive growth program is implemented to ensure that Cambodia and Vietnam are not “left
behind”
o In this special consideration for poor countries, Cambodia and Myanmar receives
infrastructure funding
o Special considerations for this program also include providing technical and vocational
training and re-training of workers
o The low cost structure of these countries (compared to other ASEAN memberS) attract
investors
- ASEAN has been a government to government cooperation
o ASEAN countries have copied the European union practice
- Some people believe that ASEAN identity does not exist, given that ASEAN, if analyzing from a
perspective of a common man, is seen as a threat rather than an opportunity.
o On the other hand, some believe that ASEAN identity exist, and that is the diversity of
our language and community and how, the people from ASEAN are collectively an
easygoing people.
o (OPINION) For me, ASEAN identity exist in a way that many similarities exist in the 10
members of this union. First, the cultures from each of these countries are different yet
somewhat similar.

- Indonesia should serve as a role model to the rest of the ASEAN members given that their
combined economy is similar with India, therefore considering the country as a “growth giant”.
- India and Indonesia re the tow countries wherein, if they made a huge progress ahead of the
ASEAN community, they may develop into countries that will contribute to thriving of the global
economy.
- Indonesia is a home to an e-commerce revolution (ex., Shopee, Lazada)
- Indonesia is predicted to become the world’s fourth largest economy by 2050
- (OPINION) Since the rise of the e-commerce, Indonesia aims to use this success on taking the
lead among the ASEAN members, by implementing financial inclusion consisting of financial
literacy education and creating digital banking. Indonesia seemed to use the rise of the
technology and modernity to uproot their economy, in which they became successful.
- The success of the Indonesia’s e-commerce is evident on its public infrastructures. In the term of
President Joko Widodo, President of Indonesia, infrastructures such as highways, Jakarta’s mass
rapid transit system, The capital’s new airport linking major cities, are some of the projects that
existed thanks to the country’s rapidly thriving economy.

- Singapore is considered to be one of the most expensive cities in the world.


o It contributes to 12 percent of the ASEAN’s combined GDP
o Singapore is considered to be a first-world country due to its economy being more
ahead than its ASEAN neighbors.
- Singapore has the biggest airport among the ASEAN countries, and world’s second biggest
container port in the global trade. The country also has highly advanced financial markets
education and expertise.
- (OPINION) cost of living is expensive in Singapore
- (OPINION) mass transport is mostly used by the locals of Singapore, than using private vehicles
as a mode of transport.
- The world's busiest cargo seaport, financial services, tourism, and exports of machinery and
electronics are what propel Singapore's economy.
