Industry

Vietnam has become a major exporter of furniture. More than 120 countries
now import Vietnamese furniture, of which the United States, the United
Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Japan are the main destinations. Vietnam
also exports furniture to China. Vietnam's indoor and outdoor furniture
industry has remained strong, and this trend is expected to continue.
Vietnam's furniture industry holds a production advantage over other large
exporters of furniture in terms of its capability to expand its global market
share.
Increasing demand from North America, Europe, and Asia has contributed

to the growth. Middle Eastern and Indian customers contribute
significantly to the sector's growth. Additionally, the Vietnamese home
furniture market is expected to grow as urbanization and the construction
of residences, apartments, and buildings continue to increase.

A major driving force behind Vietnam's strong export growth is the

country's existing free trade agreements (FTAs) and ongoing trade
negotiations, which provide opportunities to manufacturers of wooden
furniture and other wooden products to strengthen their competitiveness
and increase sales.

In 2020, the wood industry in Vietnam rose to USD 6.1

billion, with the majority of exports coming from
wooden furniture, which accounted for USD 4.4 billion
(72%), up 8.5% year-over-year. As of June 2020, the
largest markets for exported products were the United
States (43.1%), China (15.6%), Canada (19.5%), and
Australia (28.8%). In terms of wood and wood products,
Vietnam's top market is the United States.
