No, the drawbacks of corporate leveraging of social media are not sufficient to avoid such

medias whether the business is a small local business or a multi-national corporation. Social
media has become a crucial part of everyday life for being a long-term trend and almost every
brand utilizes it to publicize. It helps create brand awareness and engagement in a much faster
and easier pace. For instance, Apple has used social media as a campaign to promote its camera
for the great photos that it can take by launching a competition for people to share their
pictures and post it on social media to win. This helped apple get more engagement and
positive ratings overall (Bredava, 2022).

Although the biggest drawback of social media is the difficulty in control, avoiding using it will
only make the company fall behind on trends that attract the most customers and get lesser
visibility and engagement. To tackle this problem the company needs to take some time and
effort for careful selection of professionals to hire and establish strong policies regarding their
contents posted. Most of the drawbacks of social media is of lesser harm compared to the
advantage it brings to the company or business. However, with careful evaluations, the
company can avoid certain media which aren’t as useful in serving their purpose and focus on
ones that provide better results. For example, Instagram is a good platform for most businesses
since it has over 500 million users from which more than half check their Instagram every single
day. Most Instagram users claim that the platform helps them discover new brands to find
products and services they want the most. (Newberry, 2023)

Some company may want to avoid wasting unnecessary time and money on less engaging social
media platforms like blog related and messaging platforms where the engagement is low and
do not align with the company’s values. Tumblr and Reddit are examples of blogging sites
where people come to read and share blogs only and not engage with advertisement from
companies. Some messaging apps likes WhatsApp, WeChat, and Line are also mainly used for
personal communication where people would rather avoid engaging or getting interrupted by
business marketing schemes. Pinterest can be another example since it is used mostly for
posting and browsing pictures usually attracting female users and has less engagement
compared to other platforms. (Spila, 2018)
