Imposibilidad de que una acción hubiese tenido lugar.
A.- 3º + 2º.
- Hecho (imaginario o real) del pasado, con consecuencias en el presente.
- Nos lamentamos de una acción pasada (a veces una no acción), y lamentamos
NO haber hecho algo así en su día.
B.- 2º + 3º.
- Situaciones del pasado que se mantienen en el presente.
- If you weren´t such a bad writer, you would have passed the history test.
- If you weren´t so indulgent, you would have seen his faults from the beginning.
- If my girlfriend gave me a letter, I wouldn´t have forgiven her.

DEFINING
Las oraciones Defining: NO van entre comas.
Hay 2 tipos:
- Las que se puede omitir el relativo (WHO, WICH y THAT).
- Cuando después del relativo aparece:
- PRONB. Pers.
- SUST.
- He is the boy (who) You saw last week. (Podríamos omitir who).
NOTA: Se pueden omitir todos,Excepto: WHO, WHICH Y THAT (hacen func. SUJT).
NON-Defining , "NON=CON"
Oraciones Subordinadas Explicativas.
Características:
En las oraciones (NON - Defining) ,El Relativo,:
- VA ENTRE COMAS.
- NUNCA SE OMITE.
They told me: "Water boils at 100 degrees" ---- They told me (that) water boils at 100 degrees.
She said: "He has to work all weekend" ----She said (that) he had to work all weekend.
-Cambios de tiempo verbal en estilo indirecto:
Presente simple - Pasado simple
Presente continuo - Pasado continuo
Pasado simple - Pasado Perfecto simple
Pasado continuo - Pasado Perfecto continuo
Presente Perfecto - Pasado Perfecto
Futuro Simple (will) - Condicional simple (would)
Can - Could
Must - Had to
May - Might
- Reporting verbs:
Verbo + (that): say, claim, explain, insist, agree, complain, deny, reply.
Verbo + pronombre objeto + (that): tell (She told me that...)
Verbo + infinitivo con - to: offer, refuse, agree, promise...
Verbo + for + verbo (-ing): apologise, thank
- Expresiones que cambian en estilo indirecto:
Tomorrow - the next day/ the following day
Today - that day
Yesterday - the day before / the previous day
Next week - the following week
Last week - the week before / the previous week
Now - then
Here - there
This week - that week
- Cambios en los pronombres personales sujeto y objeto
I don't know YOU - She said she didn't like ME
WE are late - He said THEY were late
- Cambios en los posesivos:
That's not MY book - He said that wasn't HIS book.
- Peticiones e imperativos en estilo indirecto: (not) to + infinitivo
"Shut up" - He asked me TO shut up.
"Don't open that window" - He ordered them NOT TO open that window.
- Preguntas en estilo indirecto:
Al pasar de estilo directo a indirecto las preguntas tienen el orden SUJETO + VERBO. Hay que
diferenciar entre dos tipos de preguntas:
* Preguntas con palabra interrogativa (what, who, where, etc):
He asked: "Where are you?" - He asked me WHERE I was
* Preguntas cuya respuesta es si o no (sin palabra interrogativa).
She asked: are you OK? - She asked me IF/WHETHER I was OK.

(Tiena puede corer muy deprisa)
CAN Petición Informal Can I stay here for two more weeks?
(¿Puedo quedarmen aquí durante 2 semanas más?
Posibilidad She can be very rude at times.
(Ella puede ser muy grosera a veces)
Habilidad Mike i sable to spot lies by looking at your face.
BE ABLE TO (Mike puede detector mentiras mirándote a la cara).
Posibilidad You will be able to meet my wife tonight.
(Podrás conocer a mi mujer esta noche)
Imposibilidad Alice can’t sing very well.
(Alice no canta muy bien).
CAN’T Prohibición You can’t take your children with you.
(No puedes llevar a tus hijos contigo)
Incredulidad / That can’t be Paul. He is in Ireland!
Deducción (Ese no puede ser Paul. ¡Está en Irlanda!
Habilidad en pasado She could dance very well when she was a child.
(Ella bailaba muy bien cuando era una niña).
COULD Petición formal Could you introduce me to your Friends?
(¿Podrías presentarme a tus amigos?)
Sugerencia educada You could take your parents out for dinner.
(Podrías llevar a tus padres a cena fuera)
Posibilidad He could meet new people at the party.
(El podría conocer gente nueva en la fiesta).
MAY / MIGHT Posibilidad I may / might meet her mother tonight.
(Podría conocer gente nueva en la fiesta)
MAY Petición Formal / May I ask you a question?
Permiso. ¿Puedo hacerle una pregunta?
SHOULD / Consejo / Opinión You should / ought to accept Tim’s proporsal.
OUGHT TO (Tu deberías aceptar la propuesta de Tim)
NEED TO Necesidad / Obligación I need to talk to the boss (Necesito hablar con el jefe)
HAVE / HAS TO Necesidad / Obligación Peter has to help her mother in the garden.
(Peter tiene que ayudar a su madre en el jardín)
Obligación She must phone her father immediately.
MUST (Ella debe llamar por teléfono a su padre inmediatamente)
Fuerte creencia Paul must be very happy in his new house.
(Paul debe estar muy feliz en su nueva casa)
MUSTN’T Prohibición You mustn’t use the pone after midnight.
(No debes utilizer el teléfono después de media noche)
DOESN’T / Falta de obligación / You don’t have to talk about our families.
DON’T HAVE TO Necesidad (No tenemos que hablar de nuestras familias)
NEEDN’T Falta de obligación / You needn’t bring anything to my party.
Necesidad (No tienes que traer nada a mi fiesta)
WOULD Petición formal Would you meet me tomorrow at the office, please?
(¿Podrías reunirte mañana conmigo en mi oficina, por favor?
Ofrecimiento Would you like to come to the opera with me?
(¿Te gustaría venir a la ópera conmigo?
