Jazz I

Bill Reddie’s West Side Story - I remember in high school when I was a freshman this song was
played as part of the play/musical and I always remembered it being fun to listen to. The song
had a really cool feel to it that I loved as well as a really catchy melody.

Sara Jacovino’s One Step Up - The song had a really interesting haunting like quality to it, but
the melody to me had a really different feel which was interesting to have 2 different feels going
on at the same time.

Sara Jacovino’s Outside View - This song I thought was really calming to me which was a nice
change in pace from the last song. I liked that I could hear elements from the previous song
carried over since it was written by the same person.

Sara Jacovino’s Big Dipper - This song had a really kind of groovy funk feel to it. It felt really
upbeat and had a lot of energy which I really loved.

Cy Coleman’s With Every Breath I Take - This song had a really nice kind of classic, soothing
feel to it. The melody was really nice to listen to and pick up all the different times it came in.

Sara Jacovino’s Darkness of The Matter - This was one of the best songs from the concert in my
opinion. I loved that it created a whole atmosphere to it and was the only song that did that and
the whole thing was just really captivating.

Chuck Owen’s Surge - I liked this song a lot, I enjoyed all the dynamics throughout, the power
that was within not only the dynamics but also in the writing, and the driving beat just helped
keep me engaged all the way through the end.

Overall this concert was really nice to sit through, even though I was a little skeptical when I saw
that half the songs were written by the same person only because in high school our jazz band
director liked to do that a lot and they all sounded the same and got boring really fast. However I
did not feel this way at all, all of these songs kept me entertained and none of them really
sounded the same except for the elements of the Sara Jacovino songs but I had to really focus to
pick any of them up.
