How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

x Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of learning
will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

x Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning and
the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by displaying
the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it
to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation:

The activity I planned for my students is for them to create a story of a day in their life. They will
create a recording of what a day in their life looks like from beginning to end using Microsoft
PowerPoint. I will make students aware of the end goal by showing them what the end result
should look like using my recording as an example. They will use the tools in Microsoft
PowerPoint to create the story, using images to set the settings and show important events, and
using text with recordings to narrate their stories. As a teacher I will guide them through how to
use the technology and assist in any questions or when any struggles arise. Feedback will be
provided during check-ins to see how their progress is going. This lesson will be concluded by
having them present one by one their stories to the class on the monitor.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
As for managing technology in this activity we will first begin with creating a storyboard. This will
allow the students to be prepared and know what they will be writing about when it comes time
to use the computers/technology. As I mentioned it will be teacher guided but once explained
once we can have tech experts assist as leaders for when fellow classmates get stuck on a
certain step or may have a question in using the technology. This activity is very time on task
focused and more individual rather than requiring co-engagement. However, the teacher should
monitor student engagement by walking around making sure students are focused on the task
and not exploring the web.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity enhances learning for all students as it will be
done in class where the technology resources are equal to all. This will allow student
engagement from each and every student, not just those who may have these resources at
home. It allows for action and expression as the students are writing about their own day and
creating their own story on how they choose to express this. All students are represented as
they all will present their class project to one another at the end.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

After designing this lesson idea, I feel it will impact students as they will have learned a new
method to creating a presentation, in which they can use in later years. I look forward to
implementing the use of Microsoft PowerPoint for storytelling as I feel it will get them excited to
show off their end results to others, such as parents outside the classroom.
