The integumentary system

The integumentary system


Is the bodily system that surrounds your entire body;
both literally and metaphorically. If you look in the
mirror you see it, if you look at any part of your body
you see it, and if you look around you in the outside
world you see it.
In general terms, the integumentary system is
composed of the skin and its appendages: subcutaneous
tissue, deep fascia, mucocutaneous junctions, and
breasts.
FUNCTION
It works as body armor and is the first line
of defense against viruses, bacteria and
other microbes. It protects the body from
harmful light and helps regulate body
temperature. The integumentary system
stores grease, water, glucose and vitamin
D, and helps support the immune system
to protect it from disease.
