1. Product Introduction

1.1. Product Description

AP-Spine & Femur (Forearm option) dedicated measuring instrument for prevention and
treatment of osteoporosis. DEXA-type bed-type equipment for Future Fracture Risk and
Trending inspection.

Minimize Positioning Error by Automating the Measurement Process and Quality The Best-in-
Class Precision & Accuracy (<1.0%) Results are expressed in Korean Reference. The same area

can be measured accurately during re-measurement in a way that minimizes measurement

errors due to operator error and patient movement.

Checkable for Future Fracture Risk and Trending.

With Automatic Calibration, ONE TIME SCAN MODE, it is possible to perform DUAL SCAN

(SPINE+FEMUR) without changing POSITION of the patient during SCAN or INTERVENTION of


OPERATOR

DICOM support available. PACS link enabled.


1.2. Safety considerations

 The "Danger", "Warning", "Caution", and "Check" instructions in the user's manual
have been specified to prevent damage in use that may result from your incorrect
use of our products.
 Manufacturers or representatives are not liable for any damage or loss of the
product if it is damaged by the user due to misuse or neglect of the product..

Explain what may cause harm to the user.

Explain to the user what may cause serious physical damage.

Explain to the user that there is no serious physical damage but that may cause
minor damage to the body.

Describe any installation, operation, or maintenance problems that may occur,


but are unrelated to the user's physical damage.
1.3. Service Tools and Equipment

① Multi tester

 Check DC & AC input voltage.


 Check the IP and EP voltage
② Hand tools

 Large screwdriver +,- , Small screwdriver +,- , hexagonal wrench, stripper, nipper,
cable tie, insert, knife, electric tape, etc. are required..
2. How to install

2.1. Unpacking

① Remove the outer box.


② Remove the inner protective buffer and vinyl cover.
③ Check out the main body, PC and basic accessories.
 BMD body.
 PC, monitor 1SET.
 QA Phantom 1EA
 RS232 Cable
 AC Power cable
 USB Lock key
 software CD 1EA

2.2. Equipment lifting

Remove the machine's outer cover and lift the frame during machine towing and
stair lift.

2.3. BMD body assembly.

The product should be installed on a flat place at room temperature.

① Move all components to the room where they will be used and begin assembly.

② Assemble the side frame, paying attention to the direction of the head and foot.
Mount wide frame in the direction of legs and narrow frame in the direction of head.
③ Insert the BED end of the FRAME and tighten the bolts.

④ Assemble the front cover.

⑤ Assemble the rear guide.


⑥ Turn the teeth on the wheels to lower the fixing feet so that the machine does not
move. (4 locations).

⑦ Install acrylic plate.

⑧ Place the mattress in position and attach the Velcro.


⑨ Connect signal line (RS232 Cable) and AC power line (AC220V 60Hz) to the back and
bottom.

⑩ Connect the signal line (RS232 Cable) to the computer serial port.

※ Lifting the bad end of the product may damage it.


2.4. Software installation.

When the product is shipped, the UI is installed on the PC.

① In the Workstation, right-click on My Computer and select Manage.

② 2 Partition the local disk by approximately C:\ 300G and D:\ for the rest.

③ Create a Backup folder on D:\ and copy the SW File to D:\.

④ Plug the USB dongle into the back of the PC.

⑤ Run the setup file as administrator.


⑥ In the installation wizard, click Next.

⑦ Select the installation folder and click Next.

⑧ Check the folder to install and click Next.


⑨ Click "Register Now" in the Falcon registration window.

⑩ When the License input window pops up, paste the license key you received from the
administrator and click the OK button. (In case of export, License key will be sent to
CD as photo file or PDF file. You must enter the License key that matches the USB
Serial No.)
⑪ Click "Next" and "Finish" on the installation screen to finish the installation.

⑫ After installation is complete, run the UI and exit. (Some files are newly created.)
⑬ Rename the config.mdb file and replace it with the Config.mdb file included on
the CD.(The config.mdb file contains the calibration information and the factory-
set information for the device serial and should be replaced with the correct file.)
3. The pre-checks.

This chapter provides checks on setting method and assembly before using falcon..

3.1. Check input voltage

① Check the power status before inputting power.


 220VAC ±10% Single phase, Ground
 Frequency : 50Hz, 60Hz,
 Power Consumption : 400VA
② When the power is high or low and the voltage is irregular, make sure to use the
AVR.

3.2. Check when power on.

① Turn on the switch on the right side of the equipment.

② Check that the green LED on the "Power Switch" and "Control Panel" is illuminated
when the power is on.

3.3. Spectrum Check

① Power on the Workstation and run on the desktop. (BMD UI icon)


② A photo-like program opens and two pop-up windows appear.

‘Scanner movement stats’ : Detector and tube move to initial position. Empty the bed
so there is no problem with the movement of the arm, It also means that there is a
connection between the BMD and the Workstation. Press Yes.

‘X-ray Calibration’ : It means system full calibration. Press No because the device is not
currently calibrated.
③ If "Loop Wait Complete .. Timeout" Error occurs, refer to the below and check the serial
cable connection and Com port setting.

④ Open the Device Manager window to check the number of ports connected to the
current equipment.
⑤ Click Tool in the UI.

⑥ Click option.

⑦ Click Com Port.


⑧ Change it according to the port number checked in the device manager.

⑨ Quit and relaunch the UI.

⑩ Press TOOLS on the initial screen of the program.

⑪ Press "X-ray Spectrum".


⑫ Enter Password and press OK. (Must be case-sensitive.)

⑬ When the Spectrum Analysis window opens, press High Current, Target H, and then
MOVE.
* ①->②->③ Click in order.

⑭ Press SPECTRUM, the front yellow lamp is on and Spectrum comes out.

※ If a normal waveform comes out, capture the waveform and save it.
※ In case of abnormal waveforms, please contact us for assistance.
3.4. QA-Phantom Measurement

① Enter “QA Phantom” in the name bar and click the Search button.

② Click QA Phantom.

③ If the patient is not on the list, click New Patient to register. If yes, go to step 5.

④ Select QA Phantom, Chart Number: 0001, Birth Date: 1970/01/01, Sex: Male for patient
name and press Next.
⑤ Select Spine and change the scan range to 10, 80. Select Set1 and click OK.
※ X-ray radiates.

⑥ Confirm Calibration Value and click Yes..


⑦ When the arm moves to the spine position, turn on the laser and set the QA-Phantom
as shown in the photo.

⑧ Press the OK button on the arm or the Stop button on the UI to start the scan.
※ X-rays are radiated when the Scan starts.
⑨ When the scan is completed, use Auto to measure as shown in the photo.

⑩ Compare the BMD and T-score values recorded on the Phantom with the calculated
values. If the difference is more than ± 10%, please contact us.
※ It is possible to change the value of "Mb target bar" mainly in cold. In most cases,

the value stabilizes when retakes.


4. Parts Replacement

4.1. Remove the power cable

Before disassembling the main body, turn off the power switch and remove the
power cable.
① Disassemble the power cable after confirming that the main power switch is OFF.

4.2. Separation of bed mattresses and acrylic plates

① Remove the mattress from the body bed.


② Remove four 4mm countersunk screws on the edge of the acrylic plate.
③ Remove only the central acrylic plate.

Take care not to break the acrylic plate.

4.3. Replace detector

① Loosen the bolt on the lower cover of the arm.

② Loosen the bracket bolt inside the cover.

③ Remove the cables connected to the control panel. (LAMP, E-STOP, Remote)
④ Remove the cover by lifting it up.

⑤ Unplug the power cable connected to the detector.

⑥ Remove the four detector fixing bolts.

⑦ Remove the detector.

⑧ Attach the detector to the bracket.

⑨ Connect the detector cable to the red point of the connector and to the red point of
the connector.
⑩ Check the spectrum in 3.3 and adjust the position to get the best signal.
4.4. X-ray tube replacement

① Separate the connected line.

② Remove the fixing bolt.

③ Remove the X-Ray tube.

④ Place a new tube in the existing tube position.

⑤ Reconnect the disconnected cable.

⑥ Refer to Section 3.3 Check Spectrum and adjust Tube Position precisely so that Signal
Value is the largest in Spectrum Window.
⑦ Tighten the tube fixing bolt.

4.5. Replace the motherboard (CPU BOARD, ANALYZER BOARD)

① Remove the bolts on the top of the main box attached to the bottom of the
equipment. Remove the cover.
② Carefully pull back the board attached to the bus B/D.
③ Put the board to be replaced in the correct position and check the mounting status
again.
④ Refer to section 3.3 and check for abnormality.

5. Troubleshooting

Chapter 5 provides information on trouble shooting..


5.1. Reinstall program

① Copy the " C:\Program Files (x86)\Valley" folder to "D: \"

② In the "add or remove Programs" window, select Falcon.

③ Delete the SW.

④ Reinstall the UI referring to "2.4 UI Install".


⑤ When copying patient data, replace "Data folder, Patient.mdb, Config.mdb" file.
5.2. Tube tube voltage tube current adjustment.

① Remove the patient cushion (Bad) and acrylic.


② Refer to Section 3.3 and execute the Spectrum waveform at "High current, Target h".
③ Measure the DC voltage with a multimeter on top of the x-ray tube generator.

② Refer to Section 3.3 and execute the Spectrum waveform at "High current, Target h".

5.3. Power Check

The voltage for each point in the control box.

① Check AC220V input power.

② Check transformer input AC220V and output AC 46V power.

③ Check motor driver SMPS input AC 220V and output DC 24V


④ Check motor driver input DC 24V power

⑤ Check the BUS B/D input AC 220V and the output DC+15, DC-15, DC+5V.

⑥ Check the Bus B/D power.

5.4. Calibration

Aluminum phantom Setting

① Press X-ray spectrum to bring up the Spectrum Analysis window.


② Select Manual for Position.
③ Enter "100, 100" in the Detector mm field.
④ Press MOVE to move the arm.

⑤ After the movement stops, press the Laser button on the arm.
⑦ Six Aluminum phantoms are placed on top of the laser point.

※ Align the laser to the upper line of the phantom. (Backward direction of BMD)
Hardware Configration

5.4.2.1. Low current

① Place 6 Phantom. Select Low current and press SPECTRUM button.


② SPECTRUM and Signal value appear on the screen.After about 5 seconds, if the value
stabilizes, write two numbers in the Excel sheet.

③ In the same way, repeat the Phantom with 7 to 13 total.Record the values of the 13
Phantoms and press STOP to stop.

5.4.2.2. High current

① Place 14 phantoms, select High current and press SPECTRUM.


③ Write LOW ENERGY and HIGH ENERGY on the Excel sheet..

④ Entering "Energy value" for "Low current" and "High current" generates a value for
‘Counts on air’. Enter the low current ‘Counts on air’ value in Tools-> Config->
Hardware configuration-> Forearm.
⑤ Enter the high current ‘Counts on air’ value in Tools-> Config-> Hardware
configuration-> Spine, Femur L, Femur R.
Software Configration

① Select "Low current SPECTRUM" and press "X-ray spectrum".


Record the "Low energy (Red)", "High energy (blue)" and "Max Ch. (Black)” values on
the Excel sheet (Counts on target).
② In the high current SPECTRUM, write "Low energy (Red)", "High energy (blue)” and
"Max Ch. (Black)" on the Excel sheet (Counts on target).
③ If you fill in the Excel sheet, the value is created in Attenuation “K”.
Enter "Attenuation K" value in Tools-> Config-> Software configration.
Low current : Forearm
Enter Low energy (Red) - Attn. Target L_keV(Red),
High energy (Blue) - Attn. Target H_keV(Blue) and Save.
④ High current : Spine, Femur L, Femur R
Enter Low energy (Red) - Attn. Target L_keV (Red),
High energy (Blue) - Attn. Target H_keV (Blue) and Save.

⑤ *Notice : When "Low current Ratio L / H" is 1.3 or less, write "High Current Ratio L / H"
as “1.2”.
When "Low current Ratio L / H" is 1.3 or higher, subtract 0.1 from "High Current Ratio
L / H".
⑥ If you input wrong calibration value or there is error during calibration, error occurs as
below.If the following message pops up, perform calibration again..
5.5. Error message

DB Error

 Occurs when data is deleted or there is a problem in the DB.


Action: After saving the data, contact the manufacturer or reinstall the program.

X-ray not ready error.

 When the machine is off or the X-ray tube is broken.


Action: Check the power supply. Check the serial cable connection. Tube power
checks.
No License device

 The USB Lock Key is not recognized by the computer.


Action: Connect the correct lock key or check the USB device for problem.

Loop Wait Complete... timeout

 If there is a problem communicating with the computer.


Action: Check or replace the rs232 cable.
PACS transmission error message.

 In case of not working well with PACS server.


Action: Check the PACS SW information for AETitle, Ports No, IP, etc.
Check the network adapter settings on PC. In some cases, only fixed IPs work with
PACS.Open the CMD window and ping test.
Contact the PACS vendor for details.

Patient positioning error message.

 The patient setting position is out of the Scan range.


Action: If the scan range supported by the equipment is out of range, reset the initial
scan position setting..
If the patient fails to move to the initial position of the arm during scan, try again to
reset the initial position.

Invalid Patient ID

 Patient ID is not entered or duplicated.


Action: Assign a new ID.
Too low count on air values< 1000

 X-rays don't come out.


Action: Check the Spectrum waveform and check the tube.

① Interface Board: Power is supplied from smps (15v) to control CPU Board and Analyzer

② Cpu Board: Communicate with PC program, temporarily save image after patient
shooting, and transfer to monitor
③ Analyzer Board: Apply voltage and current to X-ray generator and generate X-ray
waveform and counter
④ Voltage Trans: Apply 220V and 48V to smps (220v) and X-ray generator, respectively
