Self-Assessment and Improvements

(Week 3: October 3-7, 2022)

Here it comes another Week. For another challenging endeavor, we face the new challenge as we
engage in the preface of the new practical phase, with varied facial expressions, with old and new faces.

This On-the-Job-Training program has been one of the most rewarding aspects of studying
engineering. This improved and enriched the relationship between theoretical knowledge gained in college
and field experience. My internship experience this week was beneficial and provided me with new
knowledge. It is rewarding to attend as an engineering intern student. I am able to observe an engineer's
work and obligations, and I have also interacted with various people involved in the construction. I was able
to observe the engineers, architects, and construction workers' working relationships. I got a glimpse of what
an engineer can do in the construction industry and in the community.

As an intern, I assumed I could only supervise various construction processes. However, the
engineers who became my critic not only demonstrated the process, but also assisted me in understanding
how various tasks, such as estimation, design, and construction, are carried out. This has taught me to see
things through the eyes of an engineer. One of the interesting things I noticed this week was the life of the
construction workers. When I get the chance to talk to them, hearing their stories from different perspectives
warms my heart. One of them, has his dream of becoming an engineer, but due to financial constraints, he
has not continue his studies but work as a construction worker for he believes it is somehow related to his
dream profession. At the site which Engr. Cathy and I have visited speaks different life stories, and this drive
me of my unfaltering passion of being a civil engineer soon.

This internship is a great way for us students to see what our future holds. The activities enable me
to gain experience that I can apply to my future endeavors.
