Chapter 1
BUSINESS CONCEPT
Introduction
Pen is a powerful tool as it helps express a person's deepest feelings and
serves as an instrument for making crucial decisions on paper. With the help of a
pen, a writer's imaginative world comes to life on paper. Most students use pen to
write their dreams and turn it into a goal. It is rightly said, "write it, believe it, do it,
and claim it!". A pen is truly important for a student as they use it to take notes, write
exams, and build their future. It is seen that some students associate great emotions
with their pen and use a certain kind of pen for a very long time (Priyadarshika,
2022). However, pens commonly used today can be categorized based on the
instrument mechanism of the writing tip and the type of ink, and one of them is
ballpoint pen.

A ballpoint pen, also known as a biro (British English), ball pen (Hong Kong,
Indian and Philippine English), or dot pen (Nepali) is a pen that dispenses ink
(usually in paste form) over a metal ball at its point, i.e. over a "ball point". The metal
commonly used is steel, brass, or tungsten carbide. The design was conceived and
developed as a cleaner and more reliable, and it is now the world's most-used writing
instrument (Gorziza et al., 2019).

A pen symbolizes creation, learning, expression and so much more. A pen has
the power to alter the world, depending upon how it is used. Nations made policies,
modified laws, passed revolutionary judgments, signed agreements, etc., only with
the help of one tool, a pen. A survey conducted by McGill University at Montreal,
Canada in 2019, shows that 96% of students prefer to use pen as one of the tools for
taking notes and writing important things that need to remember (Jarry, 2019). In the
Philippines, particularly in North Cotabato, a school on the foothills of Mt. Apo suffers
from a lack of learning materials. Several Filipino children, however, don’t even own
a single piece of pen and other school supplies (savethechildren.org.ph). It is very
evident how a single piece of pen have an impact to the lives of every students out
there. For them, it is not just a pen to write but it is a pen to help build dreams and
create brighter future.
