MCTC-ARD-C Series New Elevator Emergency Automatic Rescue Device User Guide Preface

Preface
Thank you for purchasing the MCTC-ARD-C series elevator emergency automatic rescue
device.

Before using the product, read this guide carefully to have a better understanding of the
product features and to use the product more safely. This guide describes the product
specifications, mounting dimensions, terminals, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Introduction

The ARD is a backup power unit that continuously monitors the elevator mains supply.
During an event of a power failure or phase loss, the MCTC-ARD-C automatically enters
the emergency rescue state and supplies power to the elevator. The ARD drives the car
for the light-load operation to the nearest floor at the emergency rescue speed, and
then the door opens to ensure any onboard passengers' safety.

Product Features

◆◆ A perfect match with the MONARCH elevator controller and commissioning-free design;

◆◆ Redundancy protection and reliable performance;

◆◆ Smart battery management and longer service life;

◆◆ Fault classification for quick fault location;

◆◆ Modular design for easier maintenance.

Safety Precautions

This device is connected to high voltage and may cause severe elec-
tric shock or even death.
 DANGER
◆◆ Always be on high alert when using or being close to the device
that has been connected to the power supply.

The product is an elevator safety device for emergency rescue when

a power failure or phase loss occurs.
 WARNING ◆◆ Incorrect installation may result in safety risks. System instal-
lation, commissioning and maintenance personnel must have
prior trainings on safety and product use.

-1-
Preface MCTC-ARD-C Series New Elevator Emergency Automatic Rescue Device User Guide

◆◆ It is prohibited to rely solely on startup, stop or input signals of

the device for personal safety during elevator maintenance as
 CAUTION these signals cannot isolate dangerous voltage.

◆◆ Before electrical wiring, use a reliable insulation component to

disconnect the power supply of the elevator.

The following table describes the safety signs.

◆◆ High voltage!

◆◆ Before maintenance, cut off all power supplies

and wait 10 minutes.

◆◆ Before using the product, read the user guide

and safety instructions carefully.

Chapter 2 Installation

2.1 Installation Environment

The ARD is installed close to the elevator control cabinet inside the elevator machine
room or along the shaft. Sufficient room for maintenance must be reserved. The operat-
ing environment must meet the requirements in Table 1-2.

2.2 Installation Method

Backplate and floor-standing installation methods are provided.

◆◆ Please prepare M6 screws and Phillips screwdrivers before installa-

NOTE tion.

Backplate Installation

◆◆ There are 3 mounting holes.

NOTE ◆◆ The lower mounting holes are inside the cabinet and the cover plate
needs to be removed first.

❶ Make hole openings in the wall as per the position and size shown in the figure;

❷ Loosen the ARD cover plate screws and remove the plate;

❸ Align the ARD device with the wall openings, tighten the screws and complete the
installation process.

4.3.2 Safety and Circuit Inspections

■ System Wiring Safety Inspection

Step 1: Check the mechanical safety

Step 2: Check the electrical wiring

Step 3: Check the electrical safety

Figure 4-7 Flowchart of safety and circuit inspection before power-on

Step 1: Mechanical safety inspection

Check for a totally clear shaft, car and car roof to create a safe operating environment
for the elevator.

- 29 -

Step 2: Electrical wiring inspection

No. Item

1 Check whether the power input terminals are connected correctly and firmly.

2 Check whether the ARD output terminals are connected correctly and firmly.

3 Check whether the ARD is reliably grounded.

Ensure that the safety circuit functions normally and the emergency stop but-
4
tons and switches in the control system operate properly.

Step 3: Electrical safety inspection

No. Item

1 Ensure that the user power voltage is within the ARD specified range.

2 The wire specifications and total switch capacity meet the requirements.

3 Check whether the inter-phase short-circuit or short-circuit to ground occurs.

4.3.3 Elevator and ARD State Inspection

No. Item

Power on the elevator with the mains power and check whether it runs nor-
1
mally.

Check that the LED digital tube displays. If it does not flash, check the power
2
supply.

3 Check the ARD battery and ensure that the energy level is not less than 30 V.

◆◆ Charge the battery if the energy level is below 30 V.

NOTE ◆◆ Check the battery if the operating panel shows Err01.

Initial Commissioning
NOTE ◆◆ Do not perform commissioning on the top or bottom floor. Run the
elevator to the middle floor. Bring the elevator up or down. Cut off
the main power when the elevator runs to the non-door zone.

4.3.5 ARD Operation

Some ARD faults may occur during the commissioning process, especially for the initial
power-on. The faults at this stage may be Err01, Err02, Err03 and so on. Please refer to
Fault Code Description for solutions.

◆◆ The recommended rescue speed can be set at 0.1 to 0.2 m/s

Maintenance MCTC-ARD-C Series New Elevator Emergency Automatic Rescue Device User Guide

Chapter 5 Maintenance

CAUTION

◆◆ Before maintenance, disconnect the air switch to ensure that the ARD is
disconnected from the mains power.

◆◆ After power-off, wait 10 min until the capacitor of the drive board is com-
pletely discharged.

◆◆ Use a screwdriver with an insulated handle, and do not lay tools or other
metal objects on the battery.

◆◆ Correct polarity of the battery must be maintained to prevent the battery

from being damaged because of a short-circuit.

◆◆ Replace the battery as the fault code indicates (or once every 2 years)
and charge and discharge it once every three to six months.
