Definition

• An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a common and painless


medical test used to quickly detect heart problems and
monitor your heart’s health .

• ECG is an abbreviation for electrocardiogram

• also called ECGs or EKGs

There are 3 main types of ECG :

• Resting ECG

• Stress or Exercise ECG

Basic of ECG Lead

• An ECG lead is a graphical description of the electrical activity


of the heart and it is created by analysing several electrodes

• A 12 Lead ECG uses10 Electrodes

• Four of these Electrodes are placed on the limbs.

• The chest Lead Consist of 6 Lead ( V) 6V- 1

• V4 :1 th Intercostal Spaces Right Sternal Border

• V4 :2 th Intercostal Space , Left Sternal Border

• V5 :4 th Intercostal Space , Midclavicular Line

• V5 :5 th Intercostal Space , Anterior Axiliary Line

Limb Lead
• Placement of limb leads:

• Red : Right arm "RA"

• Yellow : Left arm " LA"

• Green : Left leg "F "

Procedure
• Wash your hands and introduce yourself to the patient

• apply the ECG lead from the patient in correct placement And Use
lubricant for good touching Electrodes from the skin

• Remove any Iron equipment and mobile phone and turn off or Avoid
any source of current during ECG recording

• Ask the patient to lie still And not to talk , move and stay relax
when recording ECG

Procedure
• Observe the tracing quality " Speed , Calibration , All Lead Work Good "

• Press The PRINT button .

• When the machine finishes recording the ehT evomer ,GCE dael- 12

• Write The Patient History on the ECG paper such as

Normal ECG ( Normal Sinus Rhythm )
• Rate : 100 – 60 BPM

• Rhythm : Regular

• P waves : Upright and round , one preceding each QRS complex

• PR Interval : 0.20 – 0.12 seconds in duration

• QRS complexes : Narrow , 0.12 – 0.06 seconds in duration

• ST segment : Flat and isoelectric ( level with the base line )

• T waves : Upright and slightly asymmetrical
