NIIT UNIVERSITY, NEEMRANA

TOPOGRAPHY

NIIT NEEMRANA was constructed in such a way that it regards the elements
of topography that includes contours, water levels and vegetation. Buildings are
oriented in North-South direction with minimal exposure on the west side.

The housing and academic units retain the natural levels according to the
contours of the map. Natural depression of the sites has been converted into
amphitheatres and sports arena. Measures have been taken to minimise cutting
and filing of earth. They also eliminated illegal mining and extraction of stone
from hills. This has reduced the impact on the local geology of the place.

Rajasthan has a tradition of conserving water and using it very carefully.

Traditional
settlements in Rajasthan have water structures like man-made lakes, step-wells
and ponds to collect rainwater for use throughout the year. NIIT Neemrana
promotes water conservation amongst the resident population, treats and reuses
its waste water and thus draw no more than the annual rainfall recharge.
Existing water courses(valleys) are maintained and landscaped for use of
outdoor activities during summer. Check dams are temporary dams have been
constructed at rainwater and groundwater catchment areas, which are the main
sources of water at Neemrana, that help stop soil erosion.

Existing landscape has been maintained throughout the campus. Methods

have been taken for promoting afforestation along hill slopes. Native plant
species that require little water have been planted. It is a move away from a
resource consuming beautiful landscape to a more contextual landscape that the
site can support. Jalpeelu tree is a special tree found along many places in
Rajasthan which grows denser during summer has been maintained in the
campus as a unique symbol.
