What is the role of ROTC in strengthening the national security?
Student’s Answer:

As previously discussed, the NSTP consists of three components: the CWTS, LTS, and ROTC.
Among the three, ROTC is familiar to every age group of Filipinos. However, the nature and the
essence of ROTC are not clearly disseminated. With that, I will elaborate on some basic
information about this program component.

ROTC, or the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, is a program component of NSTP that mainly
educate and train students about discipline and military defense establishment. Graduates of
ROTC are prepared to participate in nation-building and supervised under the Armed Forces of
the Philippines (AFP) Citizen Armed Forces and Reserve Force.

Moreover, ROTC is considered a primary source of the reserve force AFP, accounting for 64%
of the total enlisted reservist officers. In the event of national security threats, such as terrorism
and national disaster, the country can deploy these reservist officers to the frontline. The reserve
force is especially mobilized when the military loses a significant number of officers. It is vital that
the country produce ROTC graduates of any gender who showcase gallantry and nationalism to
protect the country from any threat and maintain peace in the nation.

In summary, ROTC plays a vital role in maintaining and strengthening national security. Under
the supervision of the AFP, the ROTC produces graduates who display the spirit of gallantry and
nationalism, essential to preventing national security threats and maintaining peace within the
country.
