“GENDER STEREOTYPES AND INEQUALITY WITHIN BSIT IN TERMS OF

SCHOOL UNIFORMS” Undergraduate Mini Research project. Bachelor of Science in

Information Technology, Isabela State University, Cabagan, Isabela.

Subject Teacher: Ms. Kristine Bulado.

This study aims to focus on the issue of Gender Stereotypes and Inequality within

the BSIT course in terms of School Uniforms. The BSIT course has several different

kinds of uniforms for male and female students, and this paper aims to explore the gender

norms and implications of these uniforms. It is hypothesized that the uniforms are

indicative of the traditional gender stereotypes at a young age and that they can lead to

feelings of inequality among the sexes.

To explore this hypothesis, student surveys and interviews will be conducted to

determine the opinions of both male and female students about uniforms and their

implications. Additionally, this paper will examine the history and purpose behind the

school uniform to uncover any evidence for or against the hypothesis.

Ultimately, the respondents of the study were the student of College of

Computing Studies Information and Communication Technology (CCSICT) the data

collected will be analyzed to discover whether or not uniforms contribute to inequality

within the BSIT course. From the analysis, this thesis aims to provide a better

understanding of the gender stereotypes and implications of school uniforms and provide

possible solutions to improve the situation.

CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

Gender stereotypes and inequality has been evident in many aspects of society,

including educational institutions. This study examines the issue of gender stereotypes

and inequality within the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program

in terms of school uniforms. Gender inequality and stereotypical gender roles in

organizations have been slowly changing in recent years. This study is intended to

explore how these changes have impacted the experiences of individuals in the BSIT

program in terms of their school uniforms. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the

following questions: (1) What gender stereotypes and associated inequalities exist in

BSIT regarding school uniforms? (2) What have been the impacts of gender inequality in

terms of school uniforms on students in the BSIT program? and (3) How do gender

stereotypes associated with school uniforms impact the experiences of individuals in the

BSIT program?

In order to answer these questions, this study will be conducted through a

qualitative research design using a semi-structured interview method. Interviews will be

conducted with male and female students in the BSIT program from a variety of different

countries. Additionally, interviews will be conducted with faculty within the program to

explore their perspectives on the issue and the institution’s policies regarding school

uniforms. Finally, this study will also explore potential solutions to the issues described

above.
Ultimately, the purpose of this research is to contribute to the existing literature on the

impacts of gender inequality and gender stereotypes on individuals in BSIT in terms of

their school uniforms. This study has implications for improved gender equality and

diversity in educational institutions. It is hoped that the findings of this research will be

used to inform policy and practice within the BSIT program and beyond.
