Media in so many ways has been a profound tool to make an excellent impact in building a

nation. With its informing function, the media helps to educate the people. While its checking
function helps the people to oversee those in power. The United States is undoubtedly the
leader for the media development. Its media existence has been utilized for many good
purposes, such as in their democratic process. Moreover, the United States has tackled the
rapid growth of digital technology very well, so that its media is thriving and creating better
significance for its people.

In Indonesia, the digital technology revolution is just taking place. However, as the country is still
developing, it leads to two major problems for the media industry: the economics of the media
and the content production and quality. In terms of content, digitalization requires the media to
race for speed so that the accuracy of the news and information presented is ruled out. In the
economics sector, hundreds of media companies have closed their operations while the others
are struggling to finance themselves as they have not found the suitable strategy to gain
income. Seeing these facts, as media holds pivotal roles, it is important for the media people to
take an action.

By undergoing master study in the US I hope to be able to study those issues and learn from
how the media in the US adapted to the digital transformation. I intend to be able to provide
answers of how global digital shifting has changed Indonesian media landscape and what the
Indonesian media and its actors should do to handle this matter. The comprehensive answers
through good research with guidance from experienced professors will be useful for me to give
insight for the Indonesian media community so that we can try to solve the problems. Hence, a
Master of Science program in the field of media and communication with emphasis on digital
media will be suitable for my needs. It is crucial and also my dream to attain it at one of the
prestigious universities in the US because it is worldwide known to have the highest standard in
media studies and education.

Studying masters in media and communication field with emphasis on digital media is in-line
and will complete my previous education background and working experience. I have a Diploma
degree in Broadcast Journalism and Bachelor degree in Mass Communication from the (hide).
Meanwhile, for the past of 12 years I have been working at several TV stations in Indonesia as a
producer. I also challenged myself by establishing a media company on social media platforms
named (hide) in January 2017. By the end of last year, I joined an integration team between
(hide) and (hide) to create synergy programs and strategic plans to face the challenging
digitalization. I believe my good academic and work experience will prepare me to complete the
study ontime with a satisfying result.

Upon completing my masters, I will return to Indonesia and help to direct the media industry
development on the right track through my work as a producer. In the future, I wish to use my
extensive work experience, degree, knowledge, and networking I obtain to expand my career as
a media consultant that has expertise in both traditional and new media platforms. By becoming
a media consultant I will produce significant research and strategy to raise the quality of
Indonesian media, in-terms of its content production and economics. This aspiration is widely
open as a media expert that has a solid background both in academic and media practical still
limited in my country. In this way, I hope to be one of the media people that will help the
Indonesian media sustainable development to serve its ideal functions.
