Narrative Reading Unit 29

Dad to the Rescue

Max and Emma were playing cricket in the
backyard. Emma hit the ball hard. It landed high in a
tree.
"I can't reach it!' yelled Max.
Emma walked over to the tree. She could not reach the ball
either. She grabbed a chair and stood on it. Still, no luck.
Suddenly, Dad came out into the backyard.

'Is your ball stuck?' he asked. Max and Emma nodded

with their sad faces.
Dad reached with his long arm. He could not get to the
ball. He walked to the shed and came back with a ladder.
He put the ladder against the tree. He climbed up and
got the ball.
"Yay! Thanks Dad!' they cried. Dad turned around.
"It's my turn to bat!' he said with a smile.
