QUESTION 2:
a. A force acts at the origin of a coordinate system in a direction defined by the angles 𝜶 = 75°
and 𝜸 = 130°. Knowing that the y component of the force is +300 lb, determine (a) the angle 𝜷,
(b) the other components and the magnitude of the force.
b. A force acts at the origin of a coordinate system in a direction defined by the angles 𝜷 = 55°
and 𝜸 = 45°. Knowing that the x component of the force is -500 N, determine (a) the angle 𝜶,
(b) the other components and the magnitude of the force.
c. A force F of magnitude 230 N acts at the origin of a coordinate system. Knowing that 𝜶 = 32.5,
𝐹𝑦 = −60 𝑁, 𝐹𝑧 > 0, determine (a) the components 𝐹𝑥 and 𝐹𝑧 , (b) the angles 𝜷 and 𝜸.

For each of the following cases, determine the magnitude and the direction angles of the Resultant.

QUESTION 4:
Each of the four forces acting at E has a magnitude of 28 kN. Express each force as a Cartesian
vector and determine the resultant force.

a. An homogeneous cylinder with a mass of 250 kg is supported against a smooth surface by a cable
as shown below. Determine the forces exerted on the cylinder by the cable and the smooth
surface.

b. Knowing that the tension is 425 lb. in cable AB and 510 lb. in cable AC, determine the magnitude
and direction of the resultant of the forces exerted at A by the two cables.

c. Three cables are connected at A, where the forces P and Q are applied as shown. Knowing that Q
