DELEGATION OF TASKS 20
INTRODUCTION

Construction, real estate, industry, and infrastructure are the IJM company's main business
sectors. It has developed throughout the years and now possesses strong leadership and delivery
skills, outstanding corporate governance, and a superb sustainable business model that has
produced numerous innovative solutions.

Since the building is the company's main line of business, it has always been dedicated to the
highest standards of quality and performance, and its professionals have been the cornerstone of
their reputation as a globally competitive builder. They can offer solutions with the best
balancing act of cost, function, efficiency, and maintenance in a market for competitive building
construction.

IJM's performance in the construction sector has had a direct impact on the industry's expansion.
The division has expanded its activities to concentrate on demand from the global and non-group
markets. IJM is a significant provider of necessary materials for the building sector. They also
engage in other commercial ventures, such as the manufacture of scaffolding, PC bars, and
ready-mixed concrete.

A difficult business environment has served as the backdrop for their growth in infrastructure.
Any government's attempts to advance infrastructure development in their nation must be
complemented by effective and convenient toll roadways. The design, building, operation, and
maintenance of the tolls are all included in the range of project needs that the toll infrastructure
services offered by IJM cover.
THE MAIN FORCES IN THE GLOBAL TASK ENVIRONMENT THAT ARE
AFFECTING THE IJM CORPORATION BERHAD

The global task environment can be referred to as the external factors that directly impact the
organization's operations. It includes various components such as customers, competitors,
suppliers, regulators, and also technology. Thus, based on research, several forces in the global
task environment are affecting IJM Corporation Berhad:

Customers

One of the most critical forces in the global task environment that affects IJM Corporation
Berhad is the customer. The organization's success largely depends on its ability to meet its
customers' evolving needs and preferences. The company needs to conduct market research to
gain insights into the customer's needs, wants, and behaviors. Additionally, the company needs to
focus on improving customer satisfaction through product quality, customer service, and pricing.

Competitors

The IJM Corporation Berhad operates in a highly competitive market, and therefore, it is
essential to keep an eye on the competition. The company must analyze its competitors' strengths
and weaknesses, strategies, and market share to remain competitive. The company can also
leverage competitive intelligence to identify emerging trends and new opportunities in the
market.

Suppliers

The IJM Corporation Berhad relies on its suppliers to provide the raw materials, goods, and
services required for its operations. Any disruption in the supply chain can affect the company's
production, operations, and profitability. Therefore, the company needs to maintain a good
relationship with its suppliers and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
Regulators

The IJM Corporation Berhad operates in a regulated environment, and therefore, it needs to
comply with various legal and regulatory requirements. The company needs to stay updated on
the latest regulations, laws, and policies that impact its operations. Additionally, the company
needs to ensure that it maintains ethical standards and social responsibility.

However, based on general trends and challenges faced by companies in the construction,
infrastructure development, and property development industries, technological advancements
and innovation are often considered critical forces in the global task environment.

Technology

The IJM Corporation Berhad needs to keep pace with the latest technological advancements to
remain competitive. The company needs to invest in research and development to identify new
technologies and trends that can help it improve its operations and services. It is because,
companies that fail to keep up with the latest technological developments risk losing their
competitive edge, efficiency, and profitability. Therefore, IJM Corporation Berhad needs to be
aware of the latest technological advancements and adapt to the changing technology landscape
to remain competitive and successful in the long term.

In summary, Technology is a key force in the global task environment that is transforming
various industries, including construction, infrastructure development, and property
development. However, it is important to note that other forces in the global task environment
such as customers, competitors, suppliers, and regulators can also significantly impact the
organization's operations and success.
THE MAIN FORCES IN THE GLOBAL GENERAL ENVIRONMENT THAT ARE
AFFECTING THE IJM CORPORATION BERHAD

Global general environment means factors that can affect the organization outside of its control.
The general environment is made up of aspects of society as a whole that have an impact on the
industry and the businesses that make up that industry. How a company performs in the
marketplace can also be influenced by a variety of factors. Six general environmental influences
are examined by organizations when making strategic business decisions. The main forces in the
global general environment include political, economic, sociocultural, technological,
environmental, and legal factors which spell out as PESTEL.

Political

How freely a business can operate may be impacted by political and regulatory changes. Political
considerations include governmental impacts like modifications to trade tariffs and tax policies
that could affect an organization. The political environment in Malaysia remains unstable until
now because of the recent changing prime minister and party for government. Government
regulation and policies, political stability, government spending, international trade policies, and
land acquisition affect the industry. Government regulation and policies can affect the industry
by setting standards for building materials and construction practices. When the political
situation is unstable, fewer investors will come to Malaysia to invest in the construction industry
and this will make the activity of the project slower because of the low budget.

Economic

The demand for the company's products and services, as well as the availability of capital, labor,
and resources, are all impacted by the state of the global economy. Low economic growth will
lead to a construction recession while high economic growth makes the construction industry
activity move rapidly. For instance, when covid-19 impacted Malaysia, the economy of the
construction industry was low, so there were no clients that wanted to build buildings. It gets
worse after some clients that build residential buildings lose because there are no customers that
buy the apartment or house because of money problems, limited movement, and so on. The price
of building materials, equipment, service ices, machines, and labor also is getting higher and
making the demand for the product lower than before. Interest rates, unemployment rates, and
inflation affect the economy of the industry. The higher the interest rates, the more expensive the
cost of the project, while the unemployment rate problem is because it is difficult to find skilled
workers and can cause delays to the project.

Sociocultural

Sociocultural factors are one of the important things that need to be highlighted because
consumer lifestyles, purchasing patterns, education, religion, beliefs, values, demography,
socioeconomic classes, and attitudes will affect the business. These elements determine whether
an organization's goods and services are appropriate for the demands of its clients. But local
lifestyle trends always change. In some cases such as in the construction industry, the trends of
house design, materials, and styles depend on what the clients want, watch, and like. They may
like minimalist style, traditional style, or Japanese style. Social media plays an important role in
influencing clients to what they want. Other than that is about sustainability and the social
responsibility of society in health and safety management. For example, waste disposal after
construction needs to be taken care of, customers are also concerned about dangerous materials
that are used to build the buildings and safety when doing the construction.

Technology

With today's technology, there are many new technologies such as 3D printers, robotic
equipment, and new technology machines. All of this new technology saves more money and
time for developers and contractors. It also helps the consultant's work because of new software
where you can key in the drawings and data to calculate the works and so on. Technology also
makes the job site safer. For instance, the safety is good such as the vest, the safety helmet, the
hazard signal when danger occurs, new brand building safety, and more. Building safety can
attract customers to buy the product because it can gain customers’ trust to stay in the buildings.
Other examples of technology are BIM, smart building, and automation. All of these
technologies just to make the project finish faster or finish according to the time given.

Environment

In Malaysia, we only have the summer season. But sometimes monsoon happens, usually at the
end of the year. This will affect people in terms of living in certain areas. Floods will happen in
states such as Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang. Nowadays, many people build houses that will
save their houses from floods. A company's operations, supply chain, and risk management
methods may be significantly impacted by climate change, natural disasters, and resource
constraints. Companies must find solutions for customers to design their houses. Other than that,
the construction industry can help by not polluting the environment by using eco-friendly
products, non-dangerous chemical materials, reducing noise pollution, and so on.

Legal factors

Legal factor refers to a law, policies, and regulations that will affect the organization or a
company such as supply chain, profitability, and operation. IJM Corporation Berhad is in the
construction industry which means the laws that affect them are related to construction and
infrastructure development. For example, building codes and regulations, contractual laws and
regulations, labor laws, environmental laws, and zoning and land-use law. Labor laws are about
overtime pay for workers, safety for workers, and the minimum wage that will affect the cost,
time, and productivity of the project. If there is a problem with safety, the project will be
delayed. Environmental laws are about when projects happen, the developers and contractors
need to make sure all the waste is disposed of correctly without polluting the environment such
as noise pollution, water pollution, and air pollution.
ENVIRONMENTAL FORCES AFFECT THE JOB OF AN INDIVIDUAL WITHIN THE
IJM CORPORATION BERHAD

Environmental factors may significantly affect a person's ability to perform their work inside an
organization. Environmental forces can be divided into two categories, which are the external
environment and the internal environment. The following are some ways that environmental
forces may significantly affect a person's career within the firm. Two categories describe the
external environment:

● General Environment
● Industry Environment

The general environment is the aspects or variables that influence a firm's performance and
decision-making in its immediate surroundings. These include economic, technological, social,
and environmental issues. The economy is currently still uncertain due to the spread of the
covid-19 pandemic that has hit the country. This has caused construction projects to be delayed
or canceled which will lead to a reduction in job opportunities. In addition, budget cuts may
force companies to maintain or reduce the number of employees and make it difficult for
individuals to find employment in the industry. However, economic growth and increased
demand for construction projects can create job opportunities and improve careers for those in
the industry. For example, the IJM company has a group that employed around 4600 employees
in 2019 before the pandemic to build TRX Residences.

Besides, technological skills are a privilege that a person must have to know such as advances in
automation and artificial intelligence. This is because IJM Construction has promised to meet the
needs of stakeholders by finding and reinventing solutions that will inspire better benefits for all.
Furthermore, the Internet can affect the operations of the organization, as well as the skills and
knowledge required to create projects. If a person does not master this field, that individual
cannot do his job well. Therefore, an individual is required to develop new skills by learning new
technologies or adapting to changing work processes.
The rate of demand by society is one of the social forces in the outside environment that can
have a significant impact on individual work. The demand for building houses with a natural
design has an impact on a company's profitability. For example, Bandar Rimbayu developed by
IJM Land is a prestigious urban development that was motivated by nostalgia for a time when
people lived simply, near to nature, in a secure neighborhood. The strategic location of Bandar
Rimbayu makes it easily accessible from the Klang Valley, Subang, Petaling Jaya, Damansara,
Puchong, Shah Alam, and the city center of Kuala Lumpur via 4 main roads. By requiring them
to work on various projects kinds or pick up new abilities, the effect may have an impact on the
individual's position within the company. In conclusion, social forces in the outside world can
have an impact on how individuals perform their jobs by altering project demand, affecting the
kinds of projects the company takes, and necessitating that people pick up new skills and adjust
to shifting social norms.

In general, environmental factors can have a big impact on how well a person performs at work.
It is because pollutants can contribute to conditions like heart disease, cancer, and respiratory
illnesses. The performance of the company depends on the availability of employees. In addition,
IJM claims that it depends on the commitment and productivity of its staff members and that by
providing a secure, stimulating, and creative work environment, it can enable its staff members
to perform to their fullest capacity. Supporting IJM Construction's goal of becoming a top
employer by fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace culture and offering fair pay, a safe
working environment, and other benefits. As a result, environmental factors affect individual
production.
The term industry environment refers to the external forces or circumstances that have an
impact on a particular market or industry in which an organization competes. These variables
include competitors, customers, and suppliers. The level of competition in the IJM Construction
sector can have an impact on a person's position within an organization. Employees could put in
longer hours or spend more effort finishing projects on time and within budget to get the best
result from greater competition. On the IJM Construction websites, all projects were finished on
time because they act with professionalism in everything they do and with everyone that they
deal with and always keep their promise to customers. In other words, competition can indirectly
affect the course of a business organization.

Furthermore, the power of purchasing products from customers can affect a person's work
environment because customers can bring profit to the company. Therefore, a person can get a
bonus from the company. The proof of IJM construction making a profit is that Industri Concrete
Product (ICP) Piles has become the main choice of customers as foundation piles for station
power, high-rise buildings, civil engineering works, bridges, and marine structures. The success
of a business organization depends on the customers.

In terms of partnerships, the supplier is the organization that produces products for others. IJM
has exported the product to 15 nations. Thus, IJM Construction is a well-known provider of
necessary materials for the building sector. Additionally, ready-mixed concrete, PC bars
(high-frequency induction heat-treated bars), and scaffolding are some of their key commercial
activities. People must be aware of these pressures and be ready to adjust to changes in supplier
availability, costs, and relationships to succeed in a supplier environment.

Next, moving forward the internal environment of an organization encompasses, all the factors
and conditions that exist within the organization, such as its structure, culture, resources,
systems, and processes. These internal factors can have a significant impact on the organization's
operations, productivity, and overall success. Understanding the internal environment is crucial
for managers and leaders to make informed decisions and develop strategies that align with the
organization's goals and objectives. Factors such as organizational structure, culture, resources,
technology, and policies all play a role in shaping the internal environment of an organization.
By assessing and managing these factors effectively, organizations can create a positive and
supportive internal environment that fosters growth, innovation, and success.

First, we start with an organizational structure which refers to the formal framework of roles,
responsibilities, and relationships within an organization. It determines how tasks are divided and
coordinated, how authority and decision-making are distributed, and how communication and
information flow through the organization. IJM Corporation Berhad is a construction company in
Malaysia that has a hierarchical organizational structure. The company is led by a board of
directors who set the overall strategy and direction. Senior management is responsible for
overseeing the day-to-day operations and implementing the strategic plan. The company is
organized into several business divisions, each with its own set of functional departments. This
structure enables the company to manage its diverse operations and pursue its business
objectives effectively.

Next, organizational culture refers to the shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and practices that shape
the way work is done within an organization. In the case of IJM Corporation Berhad, a
construction company in Malaysia, the organizational culture is focused on delivering
high-quality projects, developing strong relationships with clients, and promoting sustainable
practices. The company values integrity, professionalism, teamwork, and innovation, and these
values are reinforced through initiatives such as safety training, skills development, and
employee engagement activities. The culture at IJM Corporation Berhad fosters a positive work
environment that encourages diversity and inclusion, mutual respect, and open communication.
Overall, the organizational culture plays a significant role in shaping the behavior and attitudes
of the company's employees and stakeholders and reflects the company's commitment to
excellence and sustainability.
Moreover, leadership style is one of the good methods used by a leader to guide, motivate, and
manage their team or organization. In the case of IJM Corporation Berhad, a construction
company in Malaysia, the leadership style is focused on promoting a collaborative and inclusive
environment, where employees are encouraged to share ideas and participate in decision-making.
The company's leaders value transparency, communication, and trust, and they strive to create a
culture of accountability and responsibility. The leadership style at IJM Corporation Berhad is
also characterized by a focus on continuous improvement, where leaders are open to feedback
and willing to make necessary changes to improve the organization's performance. Overall, the
leadership style at IJM Corporation Berhad is aligned with the company's values and objectives,
and it plays a critical role in shaping the company's culture and success.

Human resources policies are one of the main properties of the internal environment of an
organization because they play a vital role in shaping the organizational culture and creating a
supportive work environment. Refer to the set of rules, regulations, procedures, and practices
that govern the management of the organization's workforce. Furthermore, these policies cover a
wide range of areas, such as recruitment, selection, compensation, benefits, training and
development, performance management, and employee relations.

In addition, effective human resources policies can attract and retain talented employees, foster
employee engagement, enhance employee well-being, and ultimately contribute to the
organization's success. Human resources policies also help to ensure compliance with legal and
regulatory requirements, mitigate employment-related risks, and minimize conflicts and disputes.
Therefore, the development, implementation, and evaluation of human resources policies are
critical to the effective management of the organization's human capital and overall performance.
In the internal environment of an organization, available resources are one of the main properties
because they determine the organization's ability to achieve its objectives. Organizations that
have a rich pool of resources can leverage them to create value and gain a competitive edge in
the marketplace. In contrast, organizations that lack resources may struggle to compete, innovate,
and sustain themselves in the long run. Available resources refer to the tangible and intangible
assets, capabilities, and competencies that an organization possesses and can leverage to achieve
its objectives.

The availability and effective utilization of these resources are critical to the success of an
organization. Effective management of available resources can lead to improved performance,
increased efficiency, and better decision-making. It also helps the organization to remain
competitive, innovative, and adaptable to changes in the business environment.

One situation that can be related to human resources policies and available resources at IJM
Corporation Berhad, a construction company in Malaysia, is the recruitment and retention of
skilled labor. As a company that values quality and sustainability, IJM requires a highly skilled
workforce to meet its project needs. The company's human resources policies must be aligned
with its goals to attract, hire, and retain skilled workers while ensuring a fair and equitable
workplace. Additionally, the company must allocate adequate resources toward training and
development programs to improve the skills of its employees and meet the evolving needs of the
industry. Failure to do so may result in decreased productivity, quality, and reputation, and may
hinder the company's ability to compete in the market.
HOW DOES IJM CORPORATION BERHAD DETERMINE THE OPPORTUNITIES
AND THREATS FOR THE ORGANIZATION?

One of the ways is by doing an environmental analysis. The first step in identifying opportunities
and threats for the organization is to analyze the internal and external environment. This involves
conducting a SWOT analysis which stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and
Threats technique to assess these four aspects of their business. SWOT Analysis is a tool that can
help you to analyze what your company does best now and to devise a successful strategy for the
future to assess the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. It involves
analyzing internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and
threats) that could affect the organization. For example, IJM Corporation Berhad could evaluate
its strengths in terms of its expertise in construction, its established brand reputation, and its
strong financial position. The company could also identify weaknesses such as a lack of
diversification in its revenue streams and its dependence on specific markets.

Another way is through market research. The company may conduct market research to identify
potential opportunities and threats in the market. This involves studying the competition,
analyzing consumer behavior, and assessing industry trends. The first step in market research is
to divide the market into different segments based on factors like age, income, location, etc.
Then, they research its competitors, their strengths and weaknesses, and the opportunities and
threats that exist in the market. This helps them to stay ahead of their competition and make
necessary changes in their strategies. IJM Corporation Berhad then will analyze the economic
trends and forecasts to understand the opportunities and threats in the market which will help
them to prepare for any potential economic downturns or changes in the market. This helps IJM
Corporation Berhad to identify the different opportunities and threats in each segment and tailor
their marketing strategies accordingly. Not just that, the organization also identifies risks by
conducting a risk assessment. IJM Corporation Berhad may assess the risks associated with each
opportunity and threat identified. This helps the company to prioritize its resources and focus on
the most critical areas.
There are two suggestions that we would like to suggest for IJM Corporation Berhad to take into
consideration to improve their ways of identifying the opportunities and threats for the company.
The first suggestion is by conducting a PESTEL analysis which involves examining the political,
economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal factors that could impact the
organization. This tool could help IJM Corporation Berhad understand how changes in these
external factors could affect the company's operations and profitability. For example, the
company could evaluate the impact of political instability in the countries where it operates,
changes in government policies on infrastructure development, or the effects of climate change
on its plantations.

The second suggestion is for the company to consider doing Porter's Five Forces analysis which
is a framework that helps organizations understand the competitive forces in their industry. It
involves evaluating the bargaining power of suppliers, the bargaining power of buyers, the threat
of new entrants, the threat of substitutes, and the intensity of rivalry among existing competitors.
By using this tool, IJM Corporation Berhad could evaluate the competitive landscape in its
various businesses and assess how it can improve its market position.

Overall, IJM Corporation Berhad likely follows a structured approach to determine opportunities
and threats for the organization. By analyzing the internal and external environment, conducting
market research, assessing risks, scenario planning, and strategy development, the company can
make informed decisions and position itself for success.
CONCLUSION

To sum up, the main forces in the global task environment that can also be referred to as the
external factors that directly impact the IJM Corporation Berhad are customers, competitors,
suppliers, regulators, and technology meanwhile the main forces in the global general
environment that are affecting the IJM Corporation Berhad include political, economic,
sociocultural, technological, environmental, and legal factors which spell out as PESTEL. When
making strategic business decisions, organizations consider six general environmental influences.

Other than that, we have also concluded that the environmental forces affecting the job of an
individual within the IJM Corporation Berhad have two categories which are the general
environment and the industry environment. In general, the environment can have a significant
impact on a person's ability to perform successfully at work. Because some diseases including
heart disease, cancer, and respiratory ailments can be made worse by pollutants. Employee
accessibility affects the business's performance. IJM also asserts that it depends on the dedication
and effectiveness of its employees and that it can help them perform to the best of their abilities
by giving them a safe, stimulating, and creative work environment. Fostering an open and
diverse workplace culture and providing fair compensation, a safe working environment, and
other benefits will help IJM Construction achieve its aim of becoming a top employer.
Environmental influences consequently have an impact on individual production.

Last but not least, we have identified the ways IJM Corporation Berhad determines the threats
and opportunities for the organization. The ways are through conducting a SWOT analysis which
stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats technique to assess these four
aspects of their business. Besides that, they also conducted market research which involves
studying the competition, analyzing consumer behavior, and assessing industry trends to identify
potential opportunities and threats in the market.
