GENERAL NOTES
The first three incidents of each Inspection or testing activity listed require 100 % participation by Saudi Aramco Site Inspection Personnel. After this period, Saudi Aramco Inspection may adjust the
1 levels of Saudi Aramco participation based upon the Contractor’s performance.
2 Surveillance: QA/QC organization to monitor work in progress without notice from Construction Organization
Witness: QA/QC organization shall be notified of the timing of Inspection or test in advance. However, the inspection or test shall be performed as scheduled if the QA/QC organization
3 representative is not present.
Hold: QA/QC organization shall be notified of the timing of inspection or test in advance. Inspection or test shall not be carried out without the QA/QC organization representative in attendance.

5 If the Main Contractor delegates the assigned responsibility to the Subcontractor, then the Main Contractor will have the same degree of responsibility as assigned to Saudi Aramco.

Surface preparation, moisture testing and environmental condition

The coating shall be applied after the full curing time of concrete in SAES-H-003

accordance to SAES-Q-001. Sec. 8.1.4

New concrete must have a moisture content of 4% or less before the


coating applications commence.

(For Coating Purposes)" shall be available for review/verification of
concrete moisture condition.

Surface temperature, humidity and dew point readings shall be recorded.


The work shall not proceed if the substrate temperature shall be less than SAES-H-003

3°C (5°F) above the dew point, or any ther deviations from the coating Sec. 9.3.1
manufacturers' data sheet.

Remove any protrusions and sharp edges with an abrasive carborundum SAES-H-003

brick, power grinding, or power brushing prior to coating concrete. Sec. 7.2.1.1

Surfaces shall be sound such that a metal object run over the concrete SAES-H-003

shall not loosen any particles. Sec. 7.2.1.1

Surface contaminants such as laitance and form oils must be


removed. Form oils, grease, etc. shall be removed by steam SAES-H-003

cleaning with a water emulsifying detergent added. Laitance Sec. 7.2.1.2
shall be removed by wire brushing.

Materials that cannot be removed by steam cleaning or abrasion can be


removed by Hydochloric acid etching; The adequacy of the water flushing SAES-H-003

shall be checked by placing litmus paper on the wet surface to ensure that Sec. 7.2.1.3
it is fully neutralized.

New concrete shall be roughened to the texture of medium grit sandpaper SAES-H-003

The tensile strength of heavy duty surface concrete by ASTM D4541 shall

Test Procedures shall be in accordance with (SAES-H-003 Sec. 9.6.9/ ASTM D4263) OR

1- Tape a 4 mil thick (0.1mm), 18"x 18" (450mm x 450mm) of clear plastic sheet to the surface to be coated; tape all around with duct tape.
2- Sheet shall remain in place for a minimum of 16 hours. Indicate number of hours sheet has been in place:_____ hrs.

3- Remove and visually check the underside for moisture.


4- After 16 hours if no moisture is present on the underside of the plastic, the concrete is ready for coating.
5- If droplets of moisture are present, the concrete shall be given more curing time. Pass ¨ Fail ¨ N/A ¨
Alternate Test Procedures shall be in accordance with ( SAES-H-003 Sec. 8.1.4)
1- Drill 2 holes 6mm Diameter, 25mm deep and 150mm apart (holes to be repaired after test)
2- Surface contaminants such as laitance and form oils shall be removed.
3- Insert the Elcometer probes into each hole and seal in place with silicone putty.
4- Wait 24 hours for the effects of the drilling to stabilize.
5- Moisture Content Reading: ____________%
6- Begin coating only if the moisture content reading is less than 4%. Pass ¨ Fail ¨ N/A¨
