Project BEAR is an adapted learning recovery program of Gordon Heights II

Elementary School in the context of reading problems of Grade 2 struggling readers.
Selected teachers from the school have attended the Division Training and Orientation on
the crafting of Learning Recovery Program to solve and find the solution to the program
on the learning loss of each pupil for the past two years brought by the pandemic.
The two years learning loss was a great problem that every school must face. The
school is expected to design a program specifically in reading to help pupils who have
been identified as struggling readers. In case of us Grade 2 teachers, we have
conceptualized the design of our recovery plan based on the needs of our pupils. A total
of 110 out of 147 (77%) pupils were assessed for their reading level. Upon the
assessment it is found out that almost grade 2 pupils can read and be categorized as fast,
independent, and slow. Limited number can be identified as non-reader that needed
remediation. The whole force of grade 4, design a program through the contextualized
LRP proposed by Ms. KAREEN L. MORE. Pupils were divided into five (5), 4 sets for
Gordon Heights 2 and 1 for Tralala headed by Sir Joshua M. Go. A total of nineteen (13)
pupils will be under the remediation class.
A meeting was conducted with the parents of the pupils that will undergo
remediation. They are scheduled in the afternoon after the face-to-face classes in the
morning. The teachers decided to use a uniform reading material in Filipino which is
Marungko Approach . Out of 25, there are only fourteen (14) remaining pupils who will
be needing a continuous remediation on the next school year and be endorsed on the
teachers of the next grade level.

There’s a total of 110 pupils who have been assessed by grade 2 teachers. This
covers the 66 pupils who are under frustration level on the EGRA pre-test conducted
weeks after the opening of the school year. Most of the pupils under frustration has a
remarkable improvement thru the help of their parents / guardians and continuous
monitoring of teachers through text, chat, messenger call and provision of reading
materials. Some pupil wasn’t assessed because some of them are residence from a far-
flung area of Gordon Heights. Ten (10) pupils from Sitio Tralala has problems in reading
for they belong to minority group of indigenous people and has problems in recognizing
letters and words.
The activity started last May 30 and ended last July 15. Over-all the activity was a
success with the active participation of all the teachers, pupils, and parents.
