Activity no. 4.

2 Ethics
Discussion/Questions: Answer the following questions

1. How were the ethical principles of kindness, respects and justice violated by the
study researcher?

People are treated ethically not just by respecting their decisions and keeping them
safe, but also by attempting to ensure their well-being.

The principle of respect for humans is expressed in consent requirements, and the
principle of beneficence is expressed in risk/benefit analysis. The principle of fairness is
expressed in moral standards for fair methods and outcomes in research subject
selection.

Justice is relevant to the selection of subjects of research at two levels: the social and
the individual. Individual justice in the selection of subjects would require that
researchers exhibit fairness: thus, they should not offer potentially beneficial research
only to some patients who are in their favor or select only "undesirable" persons for
riskyresearch.

2. What steps could the researcher have to ensure these ethical principles were
followed?

Researchers would have to be fair when choosing subjects: they shouldn't provide
potentially useful research to only a few patients who are in their favor, or only
"undesirable" people for risky research.

The basic ethical principles that should guide the conduct of biomedical and behavioral
research involving human subjects, as well as the standards that should be followed to
ensure that such research is carried out in conformity with those principles The
Commission was required to consider the following factors in carrying out the above.
