The SELT Exam is a UK Home Office approved English language exam, used for UK visas and
immigration worldwide. The SELT Exam assesses listening, reading, writing and speaking skills--at the
appropriate level for meeting minimum UKVI requirements by visa type.
B1 refers to the level of English you have, as defined by the Common European Framework of
Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR guidelines say that someone at the B1 level in English can:
Understand conversations and read text about work, school, and personal related topics.
SELTs are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level
descriptors. There are six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 with A1 being the lowest, and C2 the highest.
At levels A1 and A2 only the skills of speaking and listening are assessed.
