ISO 14001:2015 is being recognized as an environmental management standard.

Significant changes
have been done which are beneficial for both organizations and environment with great impact.

The following are the three key advantages of the ISO 14001 changes:

• Better environmental performance: Employing an EMS enables organizations to recognize and manage
their environmental impacts, hence minimizing their overall environmental footprint.

• Improved productivity: An EMS can assist businesses in streamlining their environmental management
procedures, which reduces costs and increases productivity.

• Improved reputation: Companies that have achieved ISO 14001 certification may show their
dedication to environmental sustainability, which enhances their reputation and draws in clients who
place a high value on ecological responsibility.

One of the challenges of the ISO 14001 standard is that it requires ongoing organizational commitment.
Implementing an EMS is not a one-time event; it requires continuous monitoring, measurement, and
improvement. Additionally, the standard requires organizations to conduct regular internal and external
audits to ensure compliance.

EMS is known as ISO 14000 standard. It was first established in 1996 for environmental management. It
has a total of 3 additions ISO 14000:1996, 2004 and ISO 14001:2015. EMS is made for implementing
environmental policies in organizations. It is a tool, which helps organizations with a set of policies,
procedures, and objectives to manage the environment, which works on reducing waste, controlling
climate change, saving water & electricity, etc. Additionally, an EMS should be regularly reviewed and
improved to ensure that it remains adequate and relevant to the organization.
