Introduction Engineering Mechanics I

Group Assignment-I
Maximum group member 6 and submission date is 27/11/2013 E.C at 11:00 local time
1. When the pole OA is in the position shown, the tension in cable AB is 600 lb. (a) Write
the tension force exerted on point A as a vector using the coordinates shown. (b)
Determine the moment of this force about point O and state the moments about the X,
Y, and Z-axis. (c) Determine the projection of this tension force onto line AO.

2. Determine the resultant external loadings acting on the cross section through point C in
the beam. The load D has a mass of 300 kg and is being hoisted by the motor M with
constant velocity. (Note: the support at B and A is roller.)

3. The load binder is used to support a load. If the force applied to the handle is 50 lb,
determine the tensions T1 and T2. And find moment at A.

4. The uniform 15m pole has a mass of 150 kg and is supported by its smooth ends against
the vertical walls and by the tension T in the vertical cable. Compute the reactions at A
and B.
