I. Essay.

1. Explain the game basketball (200 words). (10 pts)

- Basketball is one of the most famous sports in the whole world. When playing basketball, it is
a kind of sport where the two teams will compete with the goal of shooting a ball into the
hoops. The basketball court has the shape of a rectangular area, and on each side there is a
hoop. The team players must move the ball up the court by bouncing it while standing and
running inside the court. They must screech the two points for putting the ball in the basket.
If they shoot from behind the three-point line, they must score three points. In the basketball
game, there are 5 players from each team on the basketball court at a time, and around 7 to 10
on the bench. Each of the two teams of five players must score by shooting the ball through a
hoop on an elevated 10-foot platform. The games court is divided into two main sections by
the mid-court-line. The backboard can be moved around the court by tapping, passing, rolling
or dribbling. The games consist of four quarters of 10 minutes each, with a 15-minute break
at halftime. Basketball has a lot of benefits for your body.

2. Give a brief description and achievement of the ff. illustration. (10 pts)

Description: James Naismith was the inventor of basketball game

Achievement: He was a Springfield College instructor and


graduate student at the time. He is also credited with designing the
first football helmet. He wrote the original basketball rule book and
founded the University of Kansas basketball program.
3. Illustrate the basketball court with the ff. info: (30 pts )

a. Court measurement

A basketball court is 91.86ft long and 49.21ft wide. The total playing area for a court is 4520.43
ft² and 7290.5ft² if run-offs and sidelines are required.

b. Player position

A basketball player generally falls into one of five positions:

Point guard: The point guard runs the offense and usually is the team’s best dribbler and passer.
The point guard defends the opponent’s point guard and tries to steal the ball.

Shooting guard: The shooting guard is usually the team’s best shooter. The shooting guard can
make shots from long distance and also is a good dribbler.

Small forward : The small forward plays against small and large players. They roam all over on the
court. Small forwards can score from long shots and close ones.

Power forward: The power forward does many of the things a center does, playing near the
basket while rebounding and defending taller players. But power forwards also take longer shots than centers.

Center: The center is the tallest player on each team, playing near the basket. On offense, the
center tries to score on close shots and rebound. But on defense, the center tries to block opponents’
shots and rebound their misses.

4. Give the timeline on when basketball started and its organization up until now. (50pts)

The timeline of Basketball Game:


 James Naismith (1891)
 James Naismith was a 31 year old graduate student who invented the
game of basketball in Springfield Massachusetts. He used two peach
baskets and a soccer stile ball. The peach baskets were nailed to
railings of the gymnasium balcony. After a while, the bottoms of the
fruit baskets were removed.

 Senda Berenson Abbott (1892)


- Senda Berenson Abbott she adapt James Naismith basketball rules for women
and introduces at the Smith College. And first institutional contest between the University of California
and Miss Head school.

 Soccer football(1894)
A soccer ball was used for the two years, the first basketball was marketed in that year. It was
laced measured close to 32 inches (81 cm), or about 4 inches (10cm), larger than the soccer
ball in circumference.

formed. to coordinate the teams and tournaments. That day Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Italy,
Portugal, Romania and Switzerland founded by the international basketball federation.

1936 basketball became an official sport and the united stated states team easily dominated
the competition.
