1.5 REVIEW OF THE PAST LESSON

Ok class, what is our previous topic?

Ma’am, last meeting we’ve discussed the
Photography and the different Noteworthy
Philippine Photographers.
Very good!

Who can tell me the definition of

Photography?
Ma’am, photography is the art of recording images
by exposing light-sensitive materials. It comes
from the Greek word “photos” (meaning light and
“graphos” (meaning writing).
Very well said!

How about the different Noteworthy

Philippine Photographers?
Ma’am, among the different Noteworthy Philippine
Photographers are George Tapan, John K. Chua,
Manny Librodo, and the members of the
Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation
(FPPF).
Exactly!

2. LEARNING PROCEDURES

2.1 PRIMING

Do you feel excited to know our lesson

for today?
Yes, Ma’am!
To begin with, let the world hear our
beautiful voices through singing, but we are
going to sing with a twist.

This game is entitled YOUR LINE

SOUNDS FAMILIAR. I will lead the class in
singing “baby shark”. As we sing, a fish bowl
will be passed. When I stop singing, the student
holding the bowl will pick a paper and do the
instructions written on it. Are my instructions
clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
Then, let us now begin!
(The students will actively participate in the game.)
Now class, based on our activity, what
do you think is our topic for today? Ma’am, our topic for today is Film and the Allied arts
of Film making.
Exactly!

2.2 ACTIVITY

Now class, we will be having another

activity, this is entitled “WATCHA HOW
THEY DO IT”. I am going to play a video that
you need to observe and analyze. But before that,
these are the set of questions that you need to
answer and justify based upon the video. It will
be a process of watching while catching.

(The students will observe and analyze the video

carefully.)
2.3 ANALYSIS

BREAK IT DOWN

How would you describe the video?

(Students’ answer may vary)
Ma’am, the video shows the behind-the-scenes of a
movie. It also shows on how each member of the
film making organization works to create a
meaningful and a wonderful movies.
Very good!
What art form is shown in the video?
Ma’am, the art form that was shown in the video is
the modern art which is Film.
Exactly!

Why is film making considered a true

modern art form?
(Students’ answer may vary)
Ma’am, film making is considered as a true modern
art form because just as all modern arts, it has been
greatly influenced by technology and we make art
through the things that we capture, the nature or
background that we use as well as the people who
was part of
the film.
Very well said!

If you are given a chance to be a film

maker what kind of movies will you make and
why?
(Students’ answer may vary)
Ok class, based on the video, how
would you define Film?
Ma’am, based on the video I would define Film
or cinema as another art form which has risen to
tremendous heights within the last century.
Very good!

As its early name “motion pictures”

declared, film brought yet another dimension into
play-that of moving images. Then possibilities of
this medium created a new art form that was to
become a powerful social and economic force,
and a legacy of the 20th century to the world.

Now class, why do you think film

became a powerful social and economic force?

(Students answer may vary)

Ma’am, film became a powerful social and
economic force because this form of art shows the
present phenomena that was happening in
our generations.
Very well said!

2.4 ABSTRACTION

For our further discussion let us now find

out the different allied arts of film making.

SELECT THEN CONNECT

We will be having an activity. I will

group you into four (4). On your tickets there is a
number beside your name. That number will
indicate in which group you belong. I have here
envelops that contain the different film
making allied arts and depictions. You are going
to select then connect each pictures to
those allied arts and paste it on the board. Are my
instructions clear?
Yes, Ma’am!

Now class, It’s time to find out if you’re

answers are all correct. Let’s proceed to the first
allied arts of film making which is the Film
Directing.

What is a film directing?

Ma’am, film directing is working with ideas,
images, sounds and other effects to create this
unique piece of art.
Very good!

How does a film director work to create

a film or movie?
Ma’am, the film director conceptualize the scenes,
directs the acting, supervises the cinematography
and finally editing and sound dubbing in much the
same way as a visual artist
composes an artwork.
Very well said!

As a film director, you have the idea of

how will your film will become. You have the
abstract of what scenes will fill your movies as
well as the way on how each act will be captured.
Through the years, the complexity of filmmaking
gave rise to numerous allied arts. What are
those?
Among of these numerous allied arts are Acting,
Cinematography, Editing, and
Production/set design.
Very good!

Let’s talk first about Acting which is the

art of performing. Being an actor or actress is
very hard. Do you agree? Why?
(Students’ answers may vary)
But how does a film actor express
themselves?
Ma’am, film actors express themselves without the
exaggerated facial expressions and gestures and
with the help of sounds, they learned to deliver
their lines naturally and
believably.
Exactly!

Being an actor or actress is expressing

yourself without exaggerated expressions and
pretending to be somebody else to impress or
deceive through the help of gestures and sound.
With these the art of performing gives life to the
written works.

Behind the scenes, there was this allied

art of film making that we call as
Cinematography. How can you define
Cinematography?
Ma’am, cinematography is the art of film
camera work.
Very good!

As the cinematographer, you must have

wide knowledge and skills in terms of camera
works. Now, how does a cinematographer
functions in the process of
film making?
Ma’am, a cinematographer functions in the process
of film making by capturing the director’s vision of
each scene through the
camera placement and movement, lighting and
other special techniques.
Very well said!

Being the cinematographer you are the

one who was in-charge in capturing the scenes of
the story based on the director’s imagination or
conception and applying the special techniques
on it to make it more realistic.

The next allied art is the Editing. How

would you define editing?
Ma’am, editing is the art of selecting the precise
sections of film.
Very well said!

As the film editor, you are the one who

selects and choose the precise sections of the
videos taken which will be part of the
movie. But how can we say that a film editing
takes place?
Ma’am, a film editing takes place when the process
of selecting, sequencing, and joining of the precise
sections of the film is done to achieve the
director’s desired visual and
emotional effect.
Exactly!

Underlying all these was the art of

production and set design. But how does a
producer do his/her works?
Ma’am, producers do his works by creating the
physical terms in which the mental image of the
director had of how each scene should look,
what period it should depict, and what atmosphere
it should convey.
Very good!

2.5 APPLICATION

Now that you already understand our

topic for today, we will be having an activity.
This is entitled “CHOOSE IT, ACT IT”. All
you have to do is to choose a particular scene
from your favorite movie and act it here in front.
You will also act as the props and the sound
effects of that scene. This is a collaborative effort
meaning you will do this with your same group
earlier. I will give you
10 minutes to prepare and afterwards we will
start the presentation. Is that clear?
Yes, Ma’am!
You may start now.
(The students will actively do the given tasks)
