Abbie Roberts- Lesson Idea

3rd Grade Georgia Science Standards could be to create a story about a group of adventurous animal
friends who go on a journey to learn about different habitats. Students could use Microsoft PowerPoint
to create their own stories about the habitats/ideas learned in class.

Standard: S3L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using scientific
classification procedures.

• Scene: Introduce the animal friends and their curiosity about different habitats.

2. Standard: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: Each animal friend chooses a specific habitat they want to explore and research.

3. Standard: S3L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends visit various habitats such as a rainforest, desert, ocean, and
grassland. They observe and document the unique characteristics of each habitat.

4. Standard: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends encounter different plants and animals in each habitat, noting
their adaptations and how they interact with their environment.

5. Standard: S3L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends collect samples, take pictures, and make sketches of the
organisms they find in each habitat.

6. Standard: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends return to their base and sort their findings based on the
characteristics they observed, grouping them into different categories.

7. Standard: S3L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends create a presentation to share their discoveries, showcasing
the different habitats, organisms, and their classifications.

8. Standard: S3L2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to group organisms using
scientific classification procedures.

• Scene: The animal friends present their findings to a class of younger students,
explaining the importance of understanding different habitats and the organisms that
live in them.
To incorporate ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Standards into the storyboard,
you can focus on the integration of technology tools and skills throughout the different scenes. Here's
how you can align the scenes with relevant ISTE Standards:

• ISTE Standard: Empowered Learner

• Incorporate technology by having the animal friends use digital devices or tablets to access
information about different habitats. They can explore interactive websites or digital books that
provide visual and textual information.

• ISTE Standard: Creative Communicator

• Introduce digital tools that the animal friends can use to document their habitat choices. They
can create digital presentations or collages using applications like PowerPoint, Google Slides, or
Canva to showcase their selected habitats and explain their reasons for choosing them.

• ISTE Standard: Knowledge Constructor

• Integrate technology by providing the animal friends with cameras or smartphones to capture
pictures and videos of the habitats they visit. They can use these media files later to support
their observations and create multimedia presentations.

• ISTE Standard: Computational Thinker

• Introduce the concept of coding or simulation tools that the animal friends can use to model the
interactions between organisms and their habitats. They can explore online simulations or
coding platforms that allow them to create virtual environments and observe the effects of
adaptations.

• ISTE Standard: Innovative Designer

• Integrate technology by using digital sketching tools or apps that allow the animal friends to
create digital sketches or drawings of the organisms they encounter. They can use tablets or
stylus pens to draw and annotate the unique features of the organisms.

• ISTE Standard: Knowledge Constructor

• Provide the animal friends with digital sorting and categorization tools to organize their findings.
They can use concept mapping software or online collaboration platforms to group organisms
based on shared characteristics and create visual representations of their classifications.

• ISTE Standard: Creative Communicator

• Have the animal friends use presentation software like PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Prezi to
create their presentations. They can incorporate multimedia elements such as images, videos,
and audio recordings to effectively communicate their discoveries and engage the audience.

• ISTE Standard: Global Collaborator

• Emphasize the use of technology to connect and share knowledge with the younger students.
The animal friends can use video conferencing tools or platforms to present their findings
remotely to other classrooms or schools, fostering collaboration and cross-cultural
understanding.

By incorporating these technology-driven elements, you provide opportunities for students to develop
digital literacy skills, collaborate, and effectively communicate their scientific findings using various
digital tools and platforms.
