NEGATIVE INFORMAL COMMANDS

 Affirmative informal commands (chapter 6) tell someone what to do in

a positive way. Example: Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
 Affirmative commands are created by forming the present tense of
the tú form and then dropping the final -s
Examples: Come muchas verduras y bebe agua.
 A negative command tells someone what not to do.
Example: Don’t drink a lot of soda.

To form a negative informal command, you conjugate the verb into the yo
form of the present tense. You then drop the final o and add the opposite
tú ending. If a verb is an -ar verb, you will add –es. If the verb is an -er or
-ir verb, you will add –as.

Examples: Step 1---comer-yo form is como

Step 2—drop the o to form com
Step 3-because the verb comer is an er verb, we add as—comas
Step 4-the negative command is: No comas.

There are 3 verbs that have irregular forms in the negative informal
command.
ir—no vayas
ser—no seas
dar—no des

If the verb is irregular in the present tense, you still conjugate it as you
would normally in the present tense. Some examples are:

Affirmative Negative
Pon No pongas
Ten No tengas
Sal No salgas
Ve No vayas
Sé No seas
Ven No vengas
Haz No hagas
