ABSTRACT

Shopping centers have a very important role to play in the economy in

Indonesia. This is due to the fact that most rupiah circulation occurs in shopping
centers. Aware of this, Indonesia as a developing country continues to show an
increase in the development of shopping centers each year both in the form of
traditional and modern markets. During this time the people of Kendari City prefer
outdoor pedestrian activities at street vendors, this is due to some motives such as the
young location being reached, located in densely populated areas, located in the
transit area, shopping activities as a means of recreation.
Based on these motives a new paradigm is needed in designing shopping
centers that are comfortable and can be enjoyed by visitors, both in terms of
architectural beauty and space availability, so that outdoor building design activities
are needed.
The City Walk concept is a concept that is considered suitable in outdoor
shopping building design activities. Based on the results of the interview, it was
stated that the problem of the street vendors in the city of Kendari, namely the high
rent of the losers, so we needed materials to build cheaper stalls, one of which was to
use used containers.
From some of the above explanations, the authors conclude that Kendari City
requires at least one unit / shopping center area with the use of used containers so
that the construction of shopping centers is expected to be able to attract the interest
of Kendari City people to shop in the new place. From all the considerations above,
the title "Planning a Shopping Center with the Use of Used Containers in Kendari
City" is considered very appropriate to be used as a final research material in order
to achieve a Bachelor of Architecture degree.
