Food an Art Year 9 CAT 2 Cupcake Design Task

Design Brief
You and a partner have decided to start a cupcake business. Your specialty will be designing cupcakes to
suit different party themes.
Some of the themes you will cater for include:

 Halloween
 Animals
 Spring
 Creepy Critters
 Valentine’s Day
 Funny Faces
 Chocolate Heaven
 Under the Sea
 Circus
 Football

You have decided to make some sample products to distribute to some of the local restaurants and party
centres.

Investigate and design

1. Use the internet and recipe books to provide you with inspiration for designs that suit the themes
above. Print or copy at least 6 different designs that you like and annotate each to say what
appeals to you about each one. Submit your inspiration. You can draw or provide pictures here.

2. Choose a theme for your cupcakes.

3. Design 3 cupcakes that suit your chosen theme. Draw each design and label each cupcake to show
what ingredients you will use to create the design. You will need to colour in your design too. You
may wish to do this on the computer. Submit your designs. Draw or copy and paste your designs

4. Show your designs to the teacher before proceeding to the next step.
5. Write out an order form for the ingredients you require. You only need to order the ingredients
for the decorations, not the cupcakes themselves – these will be organised for you.

you use your time, did you take as much care as you could have, did you order everything you
needed, did you clean up appropriately?

e) Any comments about the overall finish and presentation of your cupcakes?
