Major Political Parties in India-

INC and BJP

There are 6 national parties – BJP, NPP, BSP, AAP, INC and
CPI(M).
Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)
Bhartiya Janata Party( BJP) English India
peoples party, is one of the two major national
party in India alongside Indian National
Congress. It is a Pro- Hindu political party of
post independence India with its political
position towards right- wing. The party has
enjoyed broad support among members of the
higher caste and in Northern India. It has
attempted to attract support from lower caste
as well. The BJP traces it's roots to the Bhartiya
Jan sangh it was established in 1955 as the
political wing of the pro Hindu group Rashtriy
Swayamsevak Sangh RSS by Shyama Prasad
Mukherjee. The BJP was finally established in
1980 , following a split by dissidents within the
Janata coalition under the leadership of
Vajpayee, Lal Krishna Advani and Murali
Manohar Joshi. The symbol of the party is a
Lotus flower on a saffron coloured flag .
The BJP advocated hindutva (Hindu
Ness) and ideology that sought to define Indian
culture in terms of Hindu values it was highly
critical of the secular policies and practices of
the Indian National Congress. The official
ideology of the BJP is ‘integral humanism’(
Ekatma Humanism) first formulated by Deen
Dayal Upadhyay in 1965. The party expresses its
commitment to Hindutva and its policy has
historically reflected Hindu nationalist
positions. The BJP advocate social conservation
and the foreign policy centre on nationalist
principles. It’s key issues have included the
abrogation of the special status to Jammu and
Kashmir Rammandir in Ayodhya and
implementation of a Uniform Civil Code.
According to the party Hindu is a cultural
nationalism favouring Indian culture over
westernization, thus it extends to all Indians
regardless of religion.
Although initially unsuccessful—
winning only two seats in the 1984 general
election, it grew in strength on the back of the
movement around Ram Janmabhoomi in Uttar
Pradesh. Following victories in several state
elections and better performances in national
elections, the BJP became the largest political
party in the Parliament in 1996; however, it
lacked a majority in the lower house of
Parliament, and its government, under its then-
leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, lasted for only 13
days. After the 1998 general election, the BJP-
led coalition known as the National Democratic
Alliance (NDA) under prime minister Vajpayee
formed a government that lasted for a year.
Following fresh elections, the NDA
government—again headed by Vajpayee—
lasted for a full term in office; this was the first
non-Congress government to do so. Narendra
Modi, then the chief minister of Gujarat, led the
party to a landslide victory in the 2014 general
election. Modi has since led the NDA
government as Indian prime minister, including
being re-elected in the 2019 general election.
As of December 2022, the alliance governs 16
Indian states and union territories.

In terms of economic policies specially

from BJP majority hold in elections followed
strongly new liberal agent, presented as a drive
towards development with focus and health
care and agriculture. Compare to the Congress,
the BJP takes a more aggressive and
nationalistiIc position on defence policy and
terrorism like that of that of the pulwama
attack or its strong position towards terrorism
in International sphere Hindu nationalism
combined with Economic growth. Though
there has been quite some differences in the
conduct of Foreign affairs on the part of the
Modi government as compared to Vajpayee
government. Modi's Foreign policy is currently
focused on improving relations with
neighboring countries in South Asia, engaging
the extended neighbourhood in Southeast Asia
and the major global powers with ACT EAST
policy, LINK WEST policy, SAGAR and the like.
