SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN

ENGLISH – GRADE 5

MELC: Write paragraphs showing: Cause and Effect, Comparison and Contrast and problem-solutions
relationships.

Objective:

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

a. Identify what is cause and effect, comparison and contrast and problem-solution relationship.

b. Write paragraphs stating the three kinds of relationships.

c. Value the Importance of identifying the relationships of the three words.

Preliminary Activities:

 Opening Prayer

 Observe Cleanliness

 Checking of Attendance

 Review: The teacher will ask the students to recall the different types of relationships in writing.
The teacher will also provide examples of paragraphs that show cause and effect, comparison
and contrast, and problem solutions relationships.

Subject Matter:

Topic: Cause and effect, Comparison and Contrast and Problem-Solution Relationships.

Reference: EN5WC-llb-2.2.5

Materials: Laptop, TV Monitor, Speaker.

Motivation:

The teacher will show a video that presents real-life situations where cause and effect, comparison and
contrast, and problem solutions relationships are present. The students will be asked to identify the
relationships in the video.

Activity:

a. Cause and Effect: The teacher will provide a scenario where the students will need to write a
paragraph showing cause and effect. The scenario will involve a real-life situation that the students can
relate to. The students will be asked to write their paragraphs and share them with the class.
b. Comparison and Contrast: The teacher will provide two items and ask the students to write a
paragraph showing the comparison and contrast between the two items. The students will be asked to
write their paragraphs and share them with the class.

c. Problem Solution: The teacher will provide a scenario where the students will need to write a
paragraph showing a problem solution relationship. The scenario will involve a real-life situation that the
students can relate to. The students will be asked to write their paragraphs and share them with the
class.

Analysis:

The teacher will ask the students to analyze the paragraphs that were shared in the activity. The
students will be asked to identify the different types of relationships in each paragraph.

Abstraction:

The teacher will provide a real-life situation where the students will need to identify the different types
of relationships present. The students will be asked to work in pairs and present their answers to the
class.

Application:

The teacher will provide a real-life problem that is related to the objective. The students will be asked to
write a paragraph showing the different types of relationships present in the problem.

Assessment:

a. What are the different types of relationships present in writing? (Answer: Cause and effect,
comparison and contrast, and problem solution relationships)

b. What is the purpose of writing paragraphs showing cause and effect, comparison and contrast, and
problem solutions relationships? (Answer: To effectively communicate ideas and information)

c. Provide an example of a paragraph showing a problem solution relationship. (Answer may vary)

Interactive Activities:

Students will play a game entitled: Ask me, Mr. Paper Ball!

The class will form a circle and a music will be played on while the students need to continuously pass
the paper ball to their classmate if the music stops the one who holds the ball will be answering the
question coming from each layer of the paper ball. Student who will be answering the question correctly
will be given a point.

Note: If happens that the student who is holding got no question and just a note congratulations
meaning he/she is exempted to the question and automatically will be given a point.
