Possible Human Remains Located

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the location of what appear to be human
remains.

Deputies responded to the boat ramp at Yellow Banks Park Friday, June 16, 2023, around 7:30 pm to meet with
campers that located what appeared to be a human skull. The reporting party indicated they had located the
skull on a sandbar near the boat ramp.

Detectives were called in to begin the investigation into this incident and conducted searches of the area where
the skull was located. No other human remains were located. Detectives are working closely with the Medical
Examiner’s Office to gather as much information from the skull as possible.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. No other information is available at this time, updates will be sent
out as they become available for release.
