Brain Dump

1. Get out a pen and paper, a document, a notes app, a spreadsheet, whatever
format works best for you.
2. Think about EVERYTHING you need to do (or think you need to do) and write it
down.
a. Don’t leave anything out. (“Text Jack”, “Ask Susan what time the BBQ
starts”, etc.)
b. Nothing is too small.
c. Don’t be afraid to put questions on your task list (i.e., Find out why X?,
etc.). Questions that need to be answered are tasks.
d. Write down everything that comes to mind first.
e. Make sure to include all work AND personal items.
f. Then think about things you need to do daily, weekly, quarterly,
monthly, annually, and longer term and write those down. Here are
some common ideas to get you thinking (your cadence may vary):
■ Daily
● Exercise
● Answer all emails
● Food prep (packing lunches, making dinner, etc.)
● Daily planning
● Pet care (walking dog, feeding cat, etc.)
● Political activity (calling senators, etc.)
● Other daily habits (reading, meditating, etc.)
■ Weekly
● Grocery shopping
● Meal planning
● Weekly planning
● Opening/sorting mail
● Weighing self
● Watering plants
● Laundry
● Taking garbage/recycle/compost bins to the curb
● Outdoor/garden (weeding, mowing lawn, etc.)
● Preparing for weekly meetings

● Paying bills
● Review financials/budget
● Monthly work reports
● Invoicing clients
● Stay in touch (call mom, plan dinner with best friend, etc.)

■ Quarterly
● Haircut
● Goal setting (personal and work related)
● Seasonal outdoor tasks (planting in spring, raking leaves in fall,
preparing pipes for freezing temperatures, etc.)

■ Annually
● Doctor’s appointments (OB/GYN, Physical, Dermatologist, Kids’
annual check ups)

● Annual goal setting/review

● Renew driver’s license
● Renew car lease
