Since its introduction the brand has attracted many admiring glances and provided the perfect answer to those seeking to update to a new tourer which can be towed by a whole range of smaller family vehicles. New for the Golden Anniversary season is the 470/4, a versatile end washroom layout with a dedicated shower facility. The other layouts available comprise the 350/2, the true baby of the range with an ex works weight of only (665kg, the 470/5, an excellent medium sized ‘tourer for five people and the S00/6, a six berth ‘tourer in a wel laid out and practical bodyshell A host of improvements have been introduced to further distinguish Hunter Lite among its peers. The 460/2 is ‘an end washroom two berth with dedicated shower room, handbasin and toilet faites, all contained in a 14°11” bodyshell. Throughout this time, Bailey have been at the forefront of change and progress in the touring home industry both in the U.K. and Europe. In 1947, Martin Bailey buit his first tourer. Constructed from sheet materia, which were sill the subject of certain rationing restrictions, this ealy product was sold at the Ashton Gate ‘market in Bristol for the then considerable surn of £200, Within the year FG. Bailey Ltd. was formed and production had begun in eamast in a former school house on Bedminster Down Road, 2 building which can stil be seen from the company’s esting premises. Early models included the Bailey Maestro, a ‘product that was destined to become one of the ‘most popular of all tourers during the next four decades of production. In these early years, rapid growth meant that alternative premises soon became a requirement ‘and a number of sites were utlised by the ‘company, allin the south of Bristol and never far from South Liberty Lane which was to become ‘the new home in 1960, ‘Throughout the 1960's the company established its reputation for products that combined ‘excellence, practicality and value, and the range ‘was extended to cater for a wider audience of potential purchasers who were catching the “touring bua.” As the market place grew, so interest in ‘manufactures increased and by the early 1970's an engineering based PLC had taken an interest in the financial structure of Bale, A review of systems at Bailey led to Patrick Howard, the current Chairman, being appointed in 1974, It was not long before he decided that the future of Bailey rested in his hands and the ‘company assumed new family overs {8y 1977, Pack had invited his brother Stephen, 4 Chil Engines, to join him at Bailey. Tis appointment co-incided with developments in the market place which would see major improvements in specfation levels ed by the Bale Cton in 1978, the fist of anew breed of ‘well equipped touring homes that could be used throughout all four seasons of the yer. ‘As the word recession started to ease in the mid 1980's so the company began a programme of expansion which would confirm its postion asa major an European manufecturs A numberof land and building acquistions to the South Liberty Lane premises were made in 1986, 1988 and 1993 respective. The site now occupies in excess of seven acres with further acqustions clea planned and identified In November 1987 the company won the coveted "Tourer ofthe Year” Award after many Chass wins throughout the eatly years.
