Use Explanation of how it works

Paint spraying  The paint inside the can is negatively charged

 The nozzle of the can is also negatively charged
 When pressure is applied onto the top of the can the pressure from
inside the can pushes the paint up and into the nozzle
 The paint then leaves the can and forms a negatively charged ‘mist’
 A mist is formed as all of the paint has the same negative charge.
 Same charges push away causing a mist to form
 The object being sprayed is positively charged meaning it attracts
the paint

Electrostatic  The printer contains a cartridge with contains toner which is a fine
printer powdered ink.
 A ‘drum’ creates an outline of negative charge on the paper in the
form of the letters
 Next, a ink nozzle draws ink from the cartridge and ‘shoots’ it through
a positively charged charging electrode which charges the ink
 The ink then continues to travel to the paper where it is attracted to
the negatively charged outline of the letters.

Electrostatic  Electrostatic precipitators filter particles from a gas.

precipitator  It is often used to filter the gas from industrial facilities.
 As the gas is released into smokestack it is either negatively or
positively charged.
 This is done by passing it through two electrodes in the form of grids
 Slightly higher up the smokestack there is a second electrode which is
charged to the opposite charge. (i.e if you had a negative charge at
the bottom here you would have a positive charge)
 These electrodes run at very high voltages
 This attracts the particles to the plates and ‘cleans’ the gas exiting the
smokestack.
 These plates must be cleaned often by shaking them as they collect
the oppositely charged particles which hinders their performance.
