Engineer based

JOB PURPOSE

The Junior Protection and Control Engineer will be supporting the O&M Team to contribute for the safe
and efficient management and operation of the electricity Transmission network constructed under the
Project and owned and in consistency with the strategy, policies and standards as determined by the
Company management structure.

The Protection and Control Engineer will be responsible for completing activities and assignments
associated with the design and operation of protection and control systems necessary for the safe
and reliable operation of the transmission and distribution system to meet the mission and
objectives of Asset Business Unit. In addition, this position will analyze protection system
operations, and the appropriate resolutions to provide support to operations on unplanned
maintenance. This position shares accountability with peers in the planning, project management,
substation engineering, operations, and maintenance organizations to carry out the efficient and

timely completion of system reliability of the newly constructed transmission assets, generation
interconnection and system restoration and troubleshooting efforts.
The Protection and Control Engineer position comprising the conclusion of Project implementation,
commissioning phase in achieving Commercial Operations Date estimated in Q4-2024, that will set the
start of Commercial Operations Phase onwards.

Operational & Technical

The Assets Maintenance business unit establishes and implements an integrated asset
management plan to ensure reliability, optimum performance and increased efficiency for whole
of Transmission Infrastructure business assets. It is accountable for the operating and
maintenance strategies for assets, provision of technical expertise and direction on planned
shutdown works and oversight of inventory management and the management of supplier
relationships and significant Operation and Maintenance Service contracts.
As Transmission Engineer, you will lead on the monitoring of asset health, designing and
managing the broad range of our Overhead Line (OHL) monitoring processes within Electricity
Transmission Operations. You’ll continually review the deployment of new asset health
technologies throughout Electricity Transmission ensuring all processes are constantly developed
and we’re at the forefront of such technology.

Proactively managing asset risk by:

• Perform assignments involving maintenance and troubleshooting of regional metering,

protective relaying, communications and control equipment and the pre-service
inspection, test and adjustment of electrical equipment.
• Prove the confidence in proposing customized maintenance routines in comparison with
the OEM's suggested routines
• Develop strategy-based maintenance framework suitable to Power Transmission large
Utility.
• Evaluate the suitability of inspection techniques in the context of real operation failures
• Identify potential risks in considered maintenance routines and recommend mitigation
activities
• Leads Protection and Automation design to develop and/or review protective relay
settings, relay settings basis, IED data maps, and SCADA points list.
• Performs design studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of relay protections
involving logic diagrams, calculations report, relay database management, and
coordination studies.
• Responsible for Preventive and Predictive Maintenance program and its planning,
scheduling, and execution for the Substation assets.
• To manage operational and tactical aspects of transmission and distribution protection,
SCADA and metering assets by
• Implementing asset management strategies and programs
• Provide engineering advice and guidance
• Contributing to asset failure and improvement investigations
• Providing engineering support for the rectification of defects
• Providing technical oversight of asset design changes associated with maintenance
activities
• Auditing maintenance team activities to ensure quality and compliance
• Reviewing asset failure responses and identifying work required for the restoration of
assets
• Manage root cause analyses to identify potential future risks, and drive fleet-wide
corrective action plans
• Provide real time outage support to site teams. This includes troubleshooting, fault
location, and restoration efforts.

 including the use of proper PPE, LOTO, as well as all OEM and Quality/Compliance
Requirements.
• Monitors, tracks, reports on, and responds to the operation, maintenance, and repair of
equipment.
• Develop and maintain equipment documentation systems as well as aid in the
development of departmental standard work.
• Ensure the revision and updating of “Maintenance Technical Documentation” occurs as
necessary.
• Develop and update annual maintenance plan
• Drive breakthrough results in Planned and Unplanned Downtime
• Lead the scheduling and maintenance work as dictated by the Monthly/ Annual
maintenance plan and as identified work during the review meetings.
• Creates and updates engineering standards, policies, guidelines and ensures procedures
are in place for compliance with these policies.

SKILLS

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience focused on the development of

protection philosophies, automation & integration projects, and relay settings
development.
• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering Degree (essential)
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards including the National Electric Code (NEC),
National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and IEEE.
• Experience in relay setting calculations and coordination of Intelligent Electronic Devices
and Numerical Relays. Must have ability to use ASPEN or equivalent software program
and be familiar with SCADA systems, Remote Terminal Units and Real Time Automation
Controllers.
• Experience with IEC61850/Goose Messaging.
• Flexible approach to working hours and after-hours commitments
• Prior experience is desirable to include in-line, bus and equipment protection, Breaker,
Transformer, Reactor, STATCOM and similar equipment control, RTU and SCADA systems,
telemetering and communications (fiber optics, microwave, power line carrier, etc.).
• Protection & Control field testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience
• Experience with UCA, GOOSE messaging, IEC 61850, and logic development in protection
IED’s
• Experience with power line carrier and transmission line protection schemes
• Solid experience and understanding of protection, control and metering assets.
