2 Elements of Annotated Bibliographies

Reference Entry & Annotation

Creating an annotated bibliography is the process of


adding brief summaries to the sources in a reference list
for the purpose of data collection and in-depth
evaluation of a topic.

Important Notes
Include the full reference list entry formatting to APA standards

Annotations can be written as a summary or an evaluation of the source

If the annotation is a summary, briefly describe the main ideas presented


in the source and the authors point of view. (themes, arguments, thesis,
methodology)

If the annotation is an evaluation, start with a short summary to


introduce the source followed by your evaluation. Determine the sources
relevancy to your topic.

Annotated bibliography will be located as the first page after the main
report (where the reference list is located) or as a standalone
assignment. See below for examples
