Based on your understanding, what does the article imply about popular psychology?
- Pop Psychology is far from psychological science, it is it’s different specie, it tends to be
self-help ideology. It feels true but its far from being a fact. It can be called as the modern
“albularyo”. Too much exposure to social media doesn’t help as well, it’ll just make most
of us Filipinos vulnerable to the illusionary truth effect.

Do you think popular psychology has advantages and disadvantages? What are those? Explain.
- It has it’s avantages and disadvantages. An example of it’s advantage is, you being able to
explore your mind and emotions, those self-help techniques that may help you personally,
your relationship or even your career. As for its disadvantages, are the fabricated
misinformation that we somewhat believe as the truth, we can also spread this
misinformation believing that we are helping others as well.

Reflect on the article and cite examples of popular psychology you have seen online. Share your
opinion about them.
- I’m just going to generalize this, but an example is those psychologists on tiktok, where
they share their knowledge about those mental health issues, how to know if you have
one based on some common behavior that you do on a daily basis, what are the things
that you should do, and many other things. Yes, it is somewhat helpful, but some people
who are not diagnosed with those issues may think that they have one just because they
do one or two of those said behaviors on a daily basis, where in fact it’s just common
things to them.
