1) If TAP is coded as SZO. then how is FREEZE coded ?
Answer: EQDFYG (1 Mark)
Explanation: Clearly, each letter in the word TAP is moved one
step backward to obtain the corresponding letter of the code.
Thus, in FREEZE, F will be coded as E, R as Q, E as D and Z
as Y. So, the code becomes EQDDYD. (1Mark)
2) If in a certain language A is coded as 1, B is coded as 2, and so
on, how is BIDDIC coded in that code ?
Answer: 294493(1Mark)
Explanation: As given the letters are coded as
A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 respectively. So, in
BIDDIC, B is coded as 2, I as 9, D as 4, and C as 3. Thus,
BIDDIC is coded as 294493.
Now, in BASIS, B = 2, A = 1, S = 19, I = 9.
Thus, BASIS = 2 + 1 + 19 + 9 + 19 = 50. (1Mark)

arguments I and II. Give answer if only argument I is strong or if only
argument II is strong or if either I or II is strong or if neither I nor II is
strong or if both I and II are strong.
1) Should foreign films be banned in India ?
Arguments:
I. Yes. They depict an alien culture which adversely affects our
values.
II. No. Foreign films are of a high artistic
standard.
Explanation: Clearly foreign films depict the alien culture but
this only helps in learning more. So, argument I does not hold.
Also, the reason stated in argument II is not strong enough in
contradicting the ban. So. it also does not hold. ( 3 Marks)
.
2) Statement: Should there be reservation of seats and posts on
communal basis ?
Arguments:
I. Yes. It will check most of the inter-communal biases..
II. No. Ours is a secular state.
Explanation: Clearly, reservations on communal basis will
increase inter communal biases. So, argument I is vague. Also,
it will be against the secular policy, according to which no
communal group is given preference over the others. So, only
argument II holds. ( 3 Marks)
B 6 CO3
In each question below is given a statement followed by two
assumptions numbered I and II. Consider the statement and decide
which of the given assumptions is implicit.

1) 1) Statement : It is desirable to put the child in school at the

ag e of 5 or so.

Assumptions : I. A t that age the child reaches appropriate

level of development and is ready to learn.

II. Th e schools do not admit children after six years of age.

Explanation: Since the statement talks of putting the child in

school M the ag e of 5, it means that the child is mentally prepared
for the same at this age. So, I is implicit. But, nothing about
admission after six years of age is mentioned in the statement. So,
II is not implicit. ( 3 Marks)

2) Statement s "You must learn to refer to dictionary if you

want to become a good writer." — A advises B.
Assumptions : I. Only writer s refer to the dictionary.
II. All writer s good or bad refer to the dictionary.
Explanation: It does not follow from the statement that only
writer s and nobody else refer s to the dictionary. Also,
nothing is mentioned about bad writers . So, both the
assumptions I and II are not implicit. ( 3 Marks)
C 6 CO3
In each of the following questions, a statement is given followed
by two conclusions I and II. Give answer if only conclusion I
follows, if only conclusion II follows, if either I or II follows, if
neither I nor II follows or if both I and II follow.
1) Statement : Sealed tenders are invited from competent
contractors experienced in executing construction jobs.
Conclusions : I. Tender s are invited only from
experienced contractors.
II. It is difficult to find competent tenderers in construction
jobs.
Explanation: According to the statement tenders are invited
from contractors experienced in executing construction
jobs. So, conclusion I follows. The availability of
competent tenderer s in construction is not mentioned. So,
conclusion II does not follow.
2) Statement : Any young man who makes dowry as a
condition for marriage discredits himself and dishonors
womanhood.
Conclusions : I. Those who take dowry in marriage should
be condemned by society.
II. Those who do not take dowry in marriage respect
womanhood
Explanation: Clearly, the statement declares dowry as an
evil practice and reflects its demerits. Thus, conclusion I
follows. Also, it. is given that those who take dowry
dishonors womanhood. This implies that those who do not
take dowry respect womanhood. So, conclusion II follows.

2) If 1st Jan 1930 was Sunday, find the day on 15’th August 1930.
Explanation: From 1’st Jan 1930 to 15’th August 1930 we are
moving 30 + 28 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 30 + 31 + 15 = 226 days
ahead.
226/7 gives remainder 2.
Hence effectively we will move only 2 days ahead.
2 days ahead of Tuesday.
Answer: Hence 15’th August 1930 is Tuesday.
B A sum of Rs 53 is divided among A, B and C in such a way that A 6 CO5
gets Rs 7 more than what B gets and B gets Rs 8 more than what C
gets. The ratio of their shares is

Explanation: Let share of C = X

Hence share of B = X + 8
Share of A = X + 8 + 7 = X + 15(2Mark)
By the given condition X + X + 8 + X + 8 + 7 = 53 ( 1 Mark)
Calculation :Hence 3X + 23 = 53
Hence 3X = 53 – 23 = 30
Hence 3X = 30
Hence X = 10
Hence X + 8 = 18
X + 8 + 7 = 25 ( 2Marks)
Answer: Hence ratio of shares of A:B:C = 10:18:25 (1 Mark)

C In a mixture of 100 L, the ratio of milk and water is 3: 1. If 200 L 6 CO5

of water is added in the mixture, what will be the new ratio of
milk and water?

Explanation: Let the original amount of milk and water be 3X

and X respectively. (1 Mark)

Hence 3X + X = 100 (1 Mark)

Calculation: Hence 4X = 100

Hence X = 25

Hence original amounts of milk and water = 25 * 3 = 75 litres

Original amount of water = 25 litres

After adding 200 litres of water

Amount of Milk = 75 litres

Amount of Water = 225 litres (3 Marks)

Answer: Hence the new ratio is 75: 225 = 1: 3 (1 Mark)
