ABSTRACT
This study where the DC motor is used to make an improvised electric whisk is merely significant
because the product may be a lot more cheaper than the ordinary one. This study is also aimed to
compare the invented electric whisk to an another ordinary whisk in terms of speed and price. The
product uses DC motor and -------- to create the improvised whisk.
On the other hand, the two different whisk is being compared through t-test and through an interview
though the electric whisk is made through different procedures where a container is being inserted
with DC motor with an another container to stick the wires to make a whisk.
This study also shows that the improvised electric whisk easy to make instead of spending money for
buying a pricey mixer or using a manual whisk.
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A kitchen utensil is a small hand held tool used for food preparation. Common kitchen tasks include
cutting food items to size, heating food on an open fire or on a stove, baking, grinding, mixing,
blending, and measuring; different utensils are made for each task. A general purpose utensil such as
a chef’s knife may be used for a variety of foods; other kitchen utensils are highly specialized and
may be used only in connection with preparation of a particular type of food, such as an egg
separator or an apple corer. Some specialized utensils are used when the cook has limited dexterity
or mobility. The number of utensils in a household kitchen varies with time and the style of cooking.

A cooking utensil is a utensil for cooking. Utensils may be categorized by use with terms derived from
the word “ware”: kitchen; ovenware and bakeware, kitchen utensils that are use inside ovens and for
baking; cookware, merchandise used for cooking: and so forth. A partially overlapping category of
tools is that of eating utensils, which are tools used for eating (c.f. the more general category of
tableware). Some utensils are both kitchen utensils and eating utensils. Cutlery (i.e. knives [1] and
other cutting implements) can be used for both food preparation in a kitchen and as eating utensils
when dining. Other cutlery such as forks and spoons are both kitchen and eating utensils.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
A Whisk is a cooking is a cooking utensil which can be used to blend ingredients smooth or to
incorporate air into a mixture, in a process known as whisking or whipping. Most whisks consist of a
long, narrow handle with a series of wire loops joined at the end. The loops can have different shapes
depending on a whisk’s intended functions. The wire are usually metal, but some are plastic for use
with nonstick cookware. Whisks are also made from bamboo.
A DC Motor is any of a class of rotary electrical motors that converts direct current (DC) electrical
energy into mechanical energy. The most common types rely on the forces produced by induced
magnetic fields due to flowing current in the coil. Nearly all types of DC motors have some internal
mechanism, either electromechanical or electronic, to periodically change the direction of current in
part of the motor.
This study shows the making of electric whisk using DC Motor.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Purpose of the study:
The invention aims to help us if we cannot afford to acquire our own hand mixer since it is a bit pricey
and is oftenly unavailable in our locality. The materials needed in the invention also be found in our
households. Electric whisk can also be a homemade invention and easy to make. This invention can
also help the following:
Housewife. The invention can help them if they needed an electric mixer or whisk for cooking and
other personal purposes.
Aspiring bakers. Most of the people doesn’t have enough supplies for baking and this can help to
make their own electric whisk they use as one of their materials.
Students. The invention is also significant among students since they might don’t have enough
money to buy something like electric whisk if they wanted to cook or bake something.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

HYPOTHESIS
There is an effective use of DC Motor as one of the tools in making an electric whisk.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION
This study focused to invent electric whisk using DC Motor and to help us if we cannot afford to
acquire our own hand mixer since it’s a bit pricey. The study was conducted in Alabat Island
National High School.
The researchers will gather 10 respondents.
This invention/study is limited only to help house wife, aspiring bakers, and students. By the end
of the study, the reasercher should be able to invent an electric whisk using DC Motor.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
WHISK--is a cooking utensil which can be used to blend ingredients smooth or to incorporate air into
a mixture, in a process known as whisking or whipping. Most whisks consist of a long, narrow handle
with a series of wire loops joined at the end.
DC MOTOR- is any of a class of rotary electrical motors that converts direct current electrical energy
into mechanical energy. The most common types rely on the forces produced by induced magnetic
fields due to flowing current in the coil.
CHARGER- is the accessory you plug into your phone or laptop when the battery power is low.
Devices that are powered by rechargeable or internal batteries need a charger to keep that battery
working.
MINI SWITCH- is a device which is designed to interrupt the current flow in a circuit. In simple words,
a Switch can make or break an electrical circuit. Every electrical and electronics application uses at
least one switch to perform ON and OFF operation of the device.
ELECTRICITY- is the set of physical phenomena associated with the presence and motion of matter
that has a property of electric charge. Electricity is related to magnetism, both being part of the
phenomenon of electromagnetism, as described by Maxwell's equation.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Foreign
The present invention relates to a hand operated mixer for mixing and processing more or less liquid
foods in larger cooking vessels. The mixer is intended for use in large-scale and industrial kitchens.
For the purpose of preparing different more or less liquid dishes there is commercially available a
motor driven mixer which is separate from the vessel in which the food is to be prepared and which
includes an implement or tool that is inserted down into the vessel. The mixer is manoeuvred by hand
in the vessel in conjunction with preparing food.
A typical feature of such a mixer is that it has a staff-like shape. The lower end of the mixer, i.e. the
end that is intended for insertion down into the vessel, is adapted to carry different tools or
implements, such as cutting, chopping or dicing tools or a whisk. The mixer is driven by an electric
motor placed at its upper end and will normally weigh four kilograms or more, depending on the
power output of the motor and therewith the weight of the motor.
Such mixers are used for various purposes in food preparing processes. For example, they are used
to subdivide or chop cooked green vegetables in preparing vegetable soup in said vessel. Such a
mixer may also be used to subdivide or chop meat and to prepare puree, etc.. A whisk or beater is
normally used to whip cream, to mash potatoes or to mash other foodstuffs, to whip or beat sauces
and soups, etc.. The vessel used may be a cooking vessel, such as a cauldron, having a typical
volume of 20 - 200 litres or an unheated vessel of corresponding volume.
A serious problem encountered by kitchen personnel in respect of such known mixers is that they are
heavy and onerous to move up and down and sideways in and through the food mass present in the
vessel. This problem is particularly tangible when producing a mash for instance, due to the
sluggishness experienced when moving the mixer sideways. The food preparation time is also
relatively long. Although the time taken to prepare the food can be reduced by using a more powerful
motor, this would increase the weight of the mixer and therewith make the work involved more
onerous or burdensome.
This problem is resolved by means of the present invention.
Accordingly, the present invention relates to a hand mixer intended for mixing and preparing more or
less liquid food in a vessel, wherein the mixer includes a staff- like part which has at one end a tool
holder which is adapted to carry different tools, such as a cutting tool, a chopping tool or a whisk,
intended for insertion down into the vessel, and wherein the mixer further includes an electric motor
for driving a tool carried by said tool holder, and wherein the mixer is characterised in that the electric
motor of the tool drive arrangement is a high speed motor that has a maximum speed of at least 20
000 rpm and that is part of a unit which includes a gear arrangement with which said maximum speed
can be lowered to a speed appropriate to the tool used.
The present invention thus relates to a hand mixer.
The invention will now be described in more detail partly with reference to an exemplifying
embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a partially exploded view of a staff-shaped part according to the invention;
Figure 2 illustrates the staff-shaped part with a chopping tool attached thereto; and Figure 3 illustrates
the staff-shaped part with a whisk or beater attached thereto.
Detailed description of the invention.
Shown in Figure 1 is a staff-like part of a mixer which includes at one end of said part a tool holder to
which the tool is attached.
Different types of tools can be fitted releasably to the tool holder, such as a cutting tool and chopping
tool 2 or a whisk or beater 3 ; see the tool parts in Figs 2 and 3 respectively. Respective tools are
intended for insertion into the vessel in preparing the foodstuff contained therein. The other side of
the tool holder is connected to a power means that comprises a unit which includes a motor 4 and a
gear arrangement 12 for controlling the speed of the tool.
The staff-like part 11 extends from an electric cable, through which a voltage is applied to the mixer,
to the contact surfaces between the tool holder 1 and the tool. The staff-like part 11 has a length of
about 300 - 1000 mm, preferably about 500 mm. The tools 2, 3 fastened temporarily to the tool holder
during preparation of the foodstuff also have a length of about 300 - 1000 mm, preferably about 500
mm.
The motor 4 is a high-speed motor having a speed of between 20 000 - 60 000 rpm, preferably a
speed of about 35 000 rpm. The speed of the motor of a typical hand mixer is about 10 000 rpm. The
motor 4 has a power output of 1000 W, which is higher than the power output of the motor of a
conventional hand mixer intended for the same purpose, the power output of which is about 500 .
This higher power output is achieved by using a compact high-speed motor. Coupled to the motor 4 is
a gear arrangement 12 which functions to change and lower the speed of the tool holder, and
therewith of the tool attached, to a speed of about 7000 - 13000 lpm, preferably a speed of about
9000 - 11000 rpm, in the absence of load. This tool speed is suitable in enabling a skilled worker to
perform his/her work easily and in a smooth and clean fashion, without the foodstuff in question
splashing from the vessel. As a result of the higher tool speed that increases the power output of the
mixer, the invention achieves the significant advantage of enabling the weight of the mixer to be
reduced to between 1.5 - 2.5 kilograms as compared to the weight of a conventional mixer, which is
about 4,0 kg.
To prevent an unacceptably high sound level when using the hand mixer, the motor 4 is encapsulated
in a sound-insulating and vibration-free suspension unit, preferably a rubber unit, i.e. a rubber
suspension 8.
The staff-like part 11 is provided with holes, preferably small air holes, at an appropriate distance
from the motor 4. A silencer 6 situated in contact with the upper part of the motor 4 functions to muffle
the sound emanating from the intake air to the motor 4 and the gear arrangement 12. A lower silencer
7 is situated in contact with the lower part of the gear arrangement 12. This latter silencer functions to
muffle the sound emanating from the air blown from the motor 4 and from the gear arrangement 12.
When the staff- like part 11 is positioned vertically, a blow hole 9 will face away from and level with
the gear arrangement. This construction gives a cooling effect to said unit, i.e. to the high speed
motor 4 and to the gear arrangement 12, in the staff-like part of the mixer.
The tools, i.e. the cutting tool, chopping tool or whisk, rotate at mutually different speeds. The cutting
and chopping tools rotate at the speed afforded by the highspeed motor 4 and the gear arrangement
12, whereas the whisk or beater rotates at a lower speed. There exists between the whisk and the
cutting or chopping tool a speed ratio of about 10 : 1 and 10 : 2, preferably 10 : 1.5. The lower speed
is obtained through the medium of a further gear arrangement 13 located between one end of the
whisk attached to the tool holder and the whisk itself. A speed control actuator 5 is disposed on the
envelope surface in the vicinity of the other end of the staff-like part 11 opposite to the end of the tool
holder 1, for controlling the speed of a respective tool 2, 3 within one or more predetermined ranges.
The actuator 5 may conveniently consist of a knob that is turned appropriately to reduce or to
increase the speed of the tool 2, 3. Alternatively, the actuator may consist of a button to increase and
reduce the speed. In order to prevent unintentional contact with the speed control actuator 5, a safety
fitting 10 is placed over said device. The actual speed control actuator is comprised of a suitable
known electronic circuit, not shown.
According to one preferred embodiment the hand mixer is operated by a skilled worker by hand, with
the tool to be used attached to the tool holder.
Although the invention has been described above with reference to different embodiments thereof, it
will be obvious that the structural design of the staff-like part 11 and the tools, for instance 2 and 3,
can be varied. Moreover, the mixer can be used with tools other than those shown.
The present invention shall not therefore be considered limited to the embodiments described above
since variations can be made within the scope of the accompanying claims.
