FORM + LY –Y  to  – ILY

For most words, add -ly to the end of an adjective form to For words with more than one syllable ending in -y, replac
create an adverb word form. the -y with -ily.

late – lately angry – angrily

right – rightly busy – busily

hopeful – hopefully easy – easily

complete – completely happy – happily

real – really lucky – luckily

definite – definitely ready – readily

mature – maturely voluntary – voluntarily


EXCEPTIONS ONE SYLLABLE

true – truly dry – dryly   (One syllable - no change.)

full – fully coy – coyly

whole – wholly sly – slyly

shy – shyly
