A set of twins separated at birth adopted through the same agency,
Paula and Elyse didn't know they had a twin until they were 35 years old.
Elyse had contacted the adoption agency looking for information about
her birth mother and found out about her sister. The agency passed
Elyse's information to Paula. The two met up and eventually wrote a
book called Identical Strangers, about the experience of getting to know
a person with 100 percent matching DNA.

1. Kate
Five years ago, my sister got married
only three months after meeting her
boyfriend. Our parents were so upset
that my mother even fell ill. Because of
the disagreement, my sister decided to
move across the country and never
contacted again. She recently came
back home with a four-year old son. I
can’t believe I’m meeting my nephew
after so many years.
3. Carl
I moved to the capital when I graduated
from school. I soon started studying
and working. I called home once in a
while, but was so busy that I didn’t get
to visit my family for 3 years. One night,
my father called and said my
grandmother was seriously ill. I flew to
my hometown immediately and,
luckily, got to see her before she passed
away. I’m devastated but thankful she
got to meet the girl I love.
2. Roger
Last year, my parents passed away. I
was so depressed that I stopped going
to school and seeing my friends. One
day, a woman knocked on my door.
She said she was my biological mother.
My family confirmed the story. I was
shocked at first, but after a while, I
realized a was glad to meet my mother.
She helped me get back on my feet.
4. Rose
My parents got divorced when I was 12
years old. My father moved to a far
away town and only came to visit for
my birthday and Christmas. When I
turned 20 last year, he told me he was
moving back with his partner and 6-
year-old son. I knew he had a girlfriend,
but he had forgotten to mention I had a
brother. I am beyond angry at my
father, but I have to admit I am excited
to meet my little brother.
